Logic didn't do 10.5 this year as expected, only maintenance updates and the ability for thousands of tracks. Either 10.5 or 11 will drop this year, and I said months ago, I think the next upgrade will not be free.

did you switch to Cubase or you gave up?

Cubase was always a backup plan for if/when I switch from Mac to PC. Cubase is far less efficient on a Mac than Logic. I learned the basics, so if the switch does happen, I won't be completely ignorant.

When it comes to DAWs, I think they've got all too many features already. We've got to step it up and make some good music.

All they need to step up is stability IMHO. All DAW makers could work on the stability issues for the next 10 years and still have issues.

Oh, and I'm working in Reaper, which is fairly stable, but it can always be more stable.

Agree re features, DAWs are ridiculously powerful now - it is more workflow (ie UX design) that needs development (speaking Reaper here as that is what I know best)

I'd like to see Reaper improve usability with some interface improvements - simple ones like consistency mainly but also refinement of presentation to fit in with the main understandings HCI research and practise has shown over the last few years. Agree re Reaper stability - mostly okay but occasional hanging. Had a crash yesterday that required a hard boot for example
Reaper is not really subject to user input other than feature expansions though. I think the dev has said he has no interest in usability etc and Reaper is more or less the commercialisation of his personal DAW

I think a DAW can have too many features, at the expense of workflow and stability.
MuLab nicely prioritizes those two.

I too would like to see more of a "keep it simple stupid" approach. I won't mention what I use to avoid debate, but I use it because to me it's the least intrusive visually and feature-wise.

An open-platform DAW that allowed third-party audio editors (like ARA), MIDI editors, mixers, browsers, recorders, etc. would be interesting. Roll your own.

I dont know what kind of features you expect, but if you expect such that makes a track for you, there is a living and breathing DAW called = hire a producer. Its expensive but he can make music to you

As someone said we have too many features, and it is true you just may not realise it. Every daw packs basicly same stuff, just some are better in some area and some not.
