Hey all,(again)

i've recently upgraded to cubase sx 2(from fruity), however im only on a trial 'borrow' from my mate, As there is no demo availible, And so far im REALLY enjoying it.

Now sooner,(not later) my mate wants his software and dingle thingy back.....Dingle ? :D :D

So i want to be ablt to get a copy for myself, Being a student, I canny afford half a grand :-o for the retail

But their are some incredably cheap versions on ebay (sx 2, what i want) how safe would it be to buy off ebay? how do i know im not just gonna get a cracked copy on cd-r?

if anyone has any other recommenddations on where to get cheap 'LEGIT' copys feel free to share :)

many thanks

Coxy

EDIT:: Even more worrying, I just found this one.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 69455&rd=1

in small print at the bottom it says.
"(CDr only for recovery, must own origional. i do not hold responsibility of the product after shipped)"

How can they get away with this?

Post

It's a scam.

First of:
-the Cubase SX2 CD(s) doesn't look like that.
- Why it's only the pc version: you get 2 cd, one for Windows and one for Mac OSX (In the real box)
-There must be printed getting started manual
-He doesn't talk about licence transfer

You have to be able to transfer the licence to your name and that cost you 50$ or more paid at Steinberg (I forgot the exact amount)

I wouldn't trust it. If he can't show the dongle and has a serial number which can be transfered I wouldn't do it.

yeah, upon looking at most of them on ebay (the below £300 ones) im safly assuming that they are mostly all scams.

No cubase for me then :(

Post

Cubase SX2 for £29.95. I don't think so. He says it's a CD-R, so it's probably a crack.
"Limited number so hurry"....so he's got several copies for £29.95. It's over £400 from new

The CD says Cubase SX, not SX 2. There's a number on the stacker ring (plastic ring) on the CD. There wouldn't be that on a pressed CD.

It says "by Lambros" on the CD. :?: Who are they? I've never heard of them.

Stay away from that.

Always ask them a few questions. Like how can you sell it for £29.95 when it's over £400 from new?
That'll be an interesting answer.

You want cheap Cubase? Try Cubase SE or SL? SE is only £90. Having said that you CAN find cheaper original Cubase SX or SX 2 on Ebay, but they usually sell for at least £150.

You increase your chances of getting a original Cubase if the seller has a picture with Cubase, the CD and dongle posted. If he doesn't, don't even bother. Also I tend to go for sellers who has a fairly good rating. Maybe 20+. This guy does have a rating of 70, so in this case that's no guarantee.

Post

Did you try Tracktion or Podium, they both are 80-90$.
or energyXT.

You're not going to overdub and score movies with them but they are as usable as Cubase is.

Post

Not only is it a crack. He does´nt mentioned the dongle thing + he also wrote:

"NOTE : YOU ARE BUYING A FULL VERSION OF CUBASE SX2 ON CDr"

He has put a small r on the CD-R (maybe to hope that people won´t notice it)

Hope he is getting sued for it ......

I think it's crack.

if Cubase SX is too expensive for you, get a educational version.

I'm not sure about UK but in US you can get a educational copy,
you can also get this from online.

Audiomid.com and search for cubase SX and you will see
educational version.

it's less than US $400 I think..

so get Cubase SL. (if there is SL educational version, get that)
it's much cheaper and it is powerful.

Post

As a student, you should have access to educational versions of software. These are legit, full versions and fully upgradable to subsequent versions. I don't know what's available in your country, but in the US there are plenty of sites that specialize in this. I imagine the same thing applies to the UK.

after ive gotten so used to cubase and so attached to it (not to mention 'learn't it'

Sometimes i feel that charging nigh on half a grand for software is bollox, why should i be disadvantaged of continuing my dreams and career, and not be given a chance because i cant afford it.
But then i knw what a great prog cubase is and udnerstand that developers put tremendous effot into it and deserve every penny :P

...See im at college studying IT, and i do evening classes of sounds recording...so if i could find time to work i would lol

Saying that, Sonar 4 studio is quite cheap (£170) thats more realistic, But then im back to learning everything again.

Check this.

I work with softsynths only (with possiblitys of getting hardware in the future) i don't do stuff like vocals, or live recording into the computer, Just midi/softsynth(so midi) sequencing.

What hosts are sutible for me ?

 Well, what didn't you like about it? I use Tracktion myself but I thought FL Studio was supposed to be pretty good as long as you're just doing midi/softsynth stuff.

oh don't get me wrong it is.

But not wanting to start a war...Cubase's audio engine sounds so much clearer/cripser compared to FL's
as a result My synths sound nicer

I love the layout on cubase, Like i said, I want to get some hardware gear in the future, and Fruity's midi is poo at best.

When i work in fruity, I dont feel 'inspired' as it were, but in cubase i do..i don't know why, it just works for me SO much better, I enjoy it more...So its alot pf personal preference also.
