Just thinking about how i use different hosts for different tasks, and it occurred to me that stuff like Traktor DJ can be used as a sampling tool.
For example, someone over at the (rather quiet) ableton forum asked about how to do the old fatboy slim stuttering vocal or whatever.
If you think about it a tool like Traktor DJ is perfect for this. You could whack down your sample/beat/whatver onto MP3 then load into traktor. Set up a loop, and then you can alter the loop length on the fly, move the loop etc, play with the filter and record all this.
You could also se the pitch alterations to do slowdowns and speedup effects, use EQ kills to mess with the sounds etc. Plus scratch effects can do some nice cutting between 2 different tracks/parts. I know itsa a little low tech but you could probably get some decent results.
Now you have a nice little sample that can be converted back to WAV for inclusion in your chosen host.
