You install a .dll from neowin.net (no d/l link available atm, but you can find it quickly at either of those sites) that enables you to switch visual styles, and away you go.
Anyone found this dll yet?
I'm not sure what I'm looking for to be honest.

I *have* been playing with bblean, though and it's pretty impressive, but I'm finding it difficult to set up any more than the basics. :?

That's the one. When I got the download, there was also a message somewhere telling the user that there is an error or warning message that occurs. I can't remember if it was on install, on shut-down, or on reboot. Expect SOME sort of dialog, though-- basically, Windows recognizes that it's been tampered with; however, the warning only comes up once and is de rigeur. I can assure you that it's cause me no problems, and if you need more affirmation, I'm sure either the NeoWin or the Devianart communities can also allay your concerns.

When I skimmed the last page of this thread, I thought Lunch Money responded to his own posts like, 5 times in a row. It took me a minute to realize that multree also has the a similar banner in his sig. You two make a good advertisement! I think I better get my glasses checked. :)

Checked out bbLean out of curiosity as that was propably the only alternative shell I haven't checked out (been there since the early days of LiteStep and have used pretty much everything, and always returned to basic explorer.exe due to small problems).

So far so good, way better so far compared to the other bb4win variants. This might be a keeper :) (the only real problems I've had are with programs that have issues with all the other alternative shells as well)

So thanks to whoever it was who mentioned it :)

Hi JMH. I've been experimenting with a combination of bblean(freeware) and ObjectDock (freeware) and I think I might stick with it.

See here......

The only thing I haven't sussed out yet is how to add a desktop image (pretty crucial  ) so if you get there, drop me a hint in here, would you :?: :)

Yo Scuzzphut :)

Turned out it was even easier than I thought :D

Control panel - Display - Desktop just like you set it up normally :)

Here I was, getting bseroot and bsetbg...

This forum seems to be the best source of all bb related information:

Just try to avoid the temptation to start heavy tweaking after reading about all that's now possible - graphical controls for things, MS sidebar-style gadgets, *Step style wharfs and so on - or we'll never see more cool plugins from you again :D

Next thing for me is tweaking this properly, there's a lot of things I'm gonna put in the menus and the ro@ams system is so close to LiteStep way of doing things that I feel like I'm at home with this stuff.

Great idea about using ObjectDock with this. At first I couldn't really stand any dock style gadgets, seemed like a waste of screenspace and offered nothing that couldn't be done better with taskbar style solutions, but ObjectDock and especially the non-freeware version have prooved that with additional features and good configurability, it's a viable choice nowadays... (those 'spring folders' etc. in the bigger version, me like it).
