I've never spent a penny on Waves. I've tried a couple of their freebies and found them dead common sounding. Too many other options available to worry about WUP and Waves Central and the Waveshell crap.

If they annoy you then just stop doing business with them. It's worked well for me.....

Neither do I care nor am I bitching and moaning. Just pointing it out as it's a common theme here recently.

If people don't like their pricing policies then just stop supporting them. Don't buy it. I have a problem with people (in general) that dislike something so they want Everyone to follow suit. It's a poor argument. Use what you want and only buy the things you want to. I will do the same. So far, I have not paid WUP on anything and I have version 9, 10 and 11 Waves plugins running just fine. Some of their plugins are fantastic and I would pay WUP to keep them going. Seriously, their pricing is often ridiculously low. If I have to pay a few hundred once every 5 years to keep them working, I have no problem with that. The prices they set sometimes "cheapen" the quality that they have. But, that's their marketing and they can do it any way they want.
H-Delay, MV2, RBass, H-Reverb, Deesser, F6, Vitamin and a handful of others are well worth 4x what I paid for them. I'm OK with supporting Waves. If you don't want to, that's cool with me too.

krabbencutter wrote: Fri Dec 20, 2019 12:44 pm What bothers and frightens me about all this, is that they're one of the most influential plugin companies in the world and they are getting away with it. And if they continue not playing fair in regards of marketing & pricing, this might have a much bigger negative impact on the whole industry in the long term.
Getting away with what? Sporadic pricing and diluting their product value by continued rollercoaster sales? Well that's up to them.

And how are they not playing fair? This is a free market economy.
Free economy doesn't mean a company can do whatever they want without consequences.
There are lots of laws in place in many countries around the world, to protect consumers from false advertising, especially when it comes to promotional pricing. Just have a look at the guidelines from envato, one of the biggest platforms distributing digital assets for websites
https://help.author.envato.com/hc/en-us ... Guidelines
Audio software companies are simply such a niche market, that there's no intention to enforce those laws.
It's free to operate within the parameters of that free market framework. Which it is doing.

There may well be consequences for their pricing strategies, such as lower sales through losing consumer trust leading to a downturn in profit. But that's their risk to take, is it not?

What laws do you believe Waves are breaking?

Ironic you say that , the day Brexit goes into law and now will happen 31st Jan 2020

Well if the plugins keep working on my machine , which is Windows based, so Win 10 is the last version, unlike Mac and the Catalina mess, I dont care about WUP and will continue to buy more Waves plugins as they are very good quality, and made a massive difference to my music.

In fact, the $29 sales have been awesome and I am thankful for them, I couldn't afford the API stuff or SSL bundles otherwise.

It's an irrational fear. Voting with your wallet is the ONLY thing that has an impact. What is your alternative? Call the police? Pass laws? Whine on public forums? Good luck with that.

Waves can do whatever the hell they want, and I can continue to never buy another one of their plugins again. They're happy. I'm happy.

As to them somehow subverting the entire plugin industry … that's just hysteria.

krabbencutter wrote: Fri Dec 20, 2019 4:05 pm European law for a start http://data.europa.eu/eli/dir/2005/29/oj (Section 1, Article 6). Many states and countries have similar laws against unfair commercial practices. The only reason I'm making this point tho, is to put things into perspective.
Firstly it's a directive and thus only applicable to EU member states. Waves is an Israeli company, they don't even have an EU Office.

Secondly, if we ignore that and indulge in this then what part of section 1 article 6 specifically do you feel Waves are breaking the law by?

And for full disclosure, I despise Waves customer service and I generally dislike their business model but it's uninformed and unwise to bandy around on public forum making perceivably uneducated aspersions that so far you've not provided any credible evidence for.

Today's deal:
Plugins are on sale, and now take an extra 50% off!!!
also, we doubled the prices last night, so with the 50% off coupon, these plugins are the same price they were yesterday. Enjoy.
In the US and EU this is illegal. During the season of deals they violate the law every few days, with prices and discounts shifting back and forth to try to bamboozle consumers. They change the prices and discounts to pretend the cost has gone down when it remains the same or even goes up.

Their unlawful behavior can be stopped by reporting to authorities (FTC in the US, and some states will also prosecute directly), or a class action lawsuit to have a court order them to stop and compensate the victims.

The way Waves has been doubling down on deceptive pricing and discounts, I think it's time for a class action. I don't think they will stop otherwise. And the "I see nothing wrong in deception" apologizers on these threads will continue to enable them until made to stop.

What is illegal specifically?

You've written some text that clearly didn't come from their own site so no evidence is yet presented into how Waves have broken the law you dubiously reference?
