Hi everyone,

I presently use both Ableton Live Suite 10 (my main DAW) and FL Studio 20. After using each individually I noticed the tuning seems to be off in Ableton.

Using Operator to generate a basic waveform playing a static A4 note gives me the frequency for A5.

I'm not sure why it's happening and tried re-installing Live, but this did not solve the issue. Have any of you seen this issue before?

Thanks in advance.

You mean piano roll label difference between both softwares?

Hi Tooneba,

I'm thinking that is the case. It definitely throws me off when working in both DAW's but I think the difference in labeling is just something I'll have to adapt to.

Do you have any 3rd party vsti?

Try one in both hosts and tell us the result.

Hi chai_all_day_long
Yeah, FL C0 to C10, Ableton C-2 to C8. Both shows 10 octaves in different way. You can right click FL's small piano key on channel setting window, and add midi effect in ableton to change octaves. So piano roll label could match technically.

Thanks Tooneba, that is very helpful. Also hi XorXisT, I do own a lot of third party VST's (feels like never enough lol) and had the same issue. I originally discovered the issue with Massive.

Ableton Live uses the note naming scheme that is called informally "Yamaha middle C".

It is named one lower, C4 in those other software is C3 in Live, C2 is C1, etc.

Don't ask me why, I have no idea.

It is not only Live, other software default to "middle C = C3" too, like Reaper and Cubase.

"C,D,E" itself is just one scheme, many countries use DoReMI, or others.

The probwem you may be havin' could be pitch modulation. Check and see your keyboard isn't sending midi messages without your consent.

Make sure that pitch automation isn't in your clip after recording a midi track.
Set it to 0 at the start of the clip.

If you're using 2 different midi controllers such as keyboard and drum pads together they may be confusing your computer especially if one is a 5 pin and the other a usb. This can cause random pitch wheel issues.
Open your keyboard and pull out the pitch wheel plug to disconnect it, if that solves the problem then you know the cause.

Your midi keyboard's pitch wheel may be faulty (not returning to 0 when moved). Disconnect it as above and see what happens. May need a repair or new keyboard.
