There are also some "old" synths that whenever I load them, they move me with their sound. Synths like Korg Mono/Poly, MS-20, Polysix, and some Reaktor synths like Prism and Razor. They can't do everything by themselves, but man! They are timeless! I still can use only those and feel on the edge of sound technology

Yeah, Razor must be one of the most under hyped synths of all time.

I believe Reaktor in general is under the radar these days, not only Razor. The synths that made with Reaktor and sold separately are masterpieces really.
I was playing with Form, Rounds and Super 8 yesterday and I was blown away by what I can achieve! Instant inspiration while editing the sounds. The GUI and its design are also so good and encourage you to tweak.
The blocks need some learning, but even if you only tweak the ensembles already there, you can feel how great the modules are!

i know there are many Synth vs. Synth and whos better type of threads. However if you ONLY hear for the pur capability/sound of a Synths Oscillator/Sound Quality without looking at features what would the top ten look like?

in that case, i would have to say, a cat.

I downloaded and installed the Pigments 2 demo last night and it sounds very, very nice. Incredible sound quality and an amazing range of timbres from all of its' various oscillator types. I think it might be right up there with the best of the best (although I'm not yet sure it's anything we need, "best" can be over-rated).

and i really don't, i recently got zebra and i barely scratched it (got through the manual last week), and there's still this bazille exploration journey i've been on that i put on hold.
not to even mention Strobe 2 that i wasn't able to sell and after 2.5 finally looks and feels usable.

I like how thorn looks and i like the additive idea, but i have a neglected additive alchemy already...

I didn't even mention all the drum nonsense i decided to start playing with. oof.
maybe i should gtfo and back to my DAW

Surprised not to see Xils here - all their synths have a really characterful sound; Oxium is highly underrated as a bread-butter synth (maybe because the GUI was a bit divisive, but certainly usable).

Roland cloud is rather interesting, but their synths are incredibly CPU consuming for what you get. I mean the sound is OK, but not 50% CPU OK. They should change the whole programming team. Same goes for the last couple of years NI synths... FM7 is still great. Old Kontakt and Battery, too. Their new plugins consume so much more resources without actually sounding any better. Arturia stuff, too. People should probably look a bit deeper than the biggest companies in this business, to find true gems. That's excluding u-he and newer Synapsis synths. Their synths sound great, and use resources, yes, but for a reason.

There are developers who think "if I make my synth use the CPU and RAM a lot, maybe they'll think it's better quality". You should be able to discern those things. I was very sceptical about u-he synths at first, and I still am a bit, thinking they could use less CPU. But hey... funk it.

thats because the plugins are probably busy uploading the contents of your
entire HDD to "the cloud"
