Hi all!

For the first time in four months, I have a few hours to work on my music tomorrow. I have until recently used the Mexican Acoustic Bass Guitar in Independence Free for my sketching purposes, but I have problems getting Inde 3 to activate on my systems (all 3 of them!) So to make a long story short, its not available to me right now. I am thereby looking for a replacement, preferably Kontakt, but SF2 or SFZ would suffice.

I have seen the ManyTone one, and judging by the demos, it doesnt have the timbre I am after (I am mostly interested in the sound of an external mic, and not an inbuilt). The free one from Flamestudios has distorted samples in the higher velocities. I recon Trillian has one but in any case, its way out of my budget.

Can anyone recommend me an alternative?

I do own a play a real one (Ibanez EWB), but some of my arrangements are quite complicated, so I prefer to compose in piano roll/score editor and have the right sound when I mix down the sketches.

And just for the record, I am looking for an Acoustic Bass Guitar, not an upright/double Bass.

Well, I fixed it, sort of..

I managed to jbridge my working 64bit Independence.dll into a 32bit .dll(I have it working on another system than the one I will be using tomorrow).

Extreme Sample Converter then saved the day with its VSTi convertor.

I am still interested in better alternatives tho', but this will work for now!

Bumping this because I'm looking for Acoustic Bass GUITAR libraries. (Not upright bass). I found AmpleSound, but looking for alternatives, preferably less expensive. I also found a free one (I can't remember the name at the moment and on a different computer.)

Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance

Unless I'm missing something...Impact Soundworks Precision (Shreddage) is ELECTRIC bass guitar.

This thread is referencing ACOUSTIC bass GUITAR. (I'm looking for something less expensive than Amplesound.)

There isn't going to be much - acoustic bass guitars are a niche instrument in real life. Not much volume or low end, mostly usable amplified. Pretty much just the Ample, and guitarrons AFAIK. At some point in January, I'm going to release a hollowbody electric bass which I also recorded with a mic, but again, not the same thing.

There's a few oddball plucked bass beasts from the late 19th and early 20th century which would be fun to sample - the chitarrone moderno, which is constructed like a guitar but the size of a double bass, bass mandolins and bass/contrabass banjos, and the mandolone which is tuned ADGC. There's also a more modern oversized bass guitar made I think by Rigel about 15-20 years ago. None of these are very practical or popular in real life, but would be cool to have around as oddball samples.

Hey @songshark, you’re obviously already aware of it, but for what it’s worth, I own AmpleSound’s acoustic bass and think it’s excellent (as I find all AS’ instruments to be). It’s also on sale right now if you didn’t know; still not exactly cheap, perhaps, but a little bit cheaper at least.

I was going to say something similar. Most acoustic bass guitars just don't have enough juice to cut it acoustically. The Ernie Ball Earthwood may be an exception...Brian Ritchie from The Violent Femmes sure sounds good on one!
