Hi Guys.
A bit off topic here but I was down at the newsagents today killing a bit of time and browsing the music mags and whilst there's the likes of Sound On Sound and Computer Music etc, I couldn't find anything that is about what we do: compose music on our computers, so I got to thinking about putting together a web based magazine with articles, stories and tips like we scramble around various youtube / forum sites for, but specifically aimed at the composer using apps like RC etc.

Looking to maybe put something out once a month or so and include interviews / composer spotlight articles / general experiences / opinion / Q&A etc, so would be looking for contributions etc.

Aimed at folks like ourselves and where everyone at whatever level could get shot at having a voice.

What does everyone think. Would it be something of use?

Thoughts and comments please.

Cheers.
Mike.

Hi Mike,

I fully support the idea! I also realized that existing magazines don't care about music composing at all. I remember I had a hard time to get attention from big magazines when I asked them to review RapidComposer, then I gave up. Composers are completely ignored. You don't find any articles about music theory or composition in them, even if almost everyone composes music.
I can offer RapidComposer licenses to draw among subscribers, if needed.

Thanks,
Attila

Hi Attila. Thanks for the reply.
I'm amazed at the lack of material and it hadn't really struck home until today.

There's stuff for most major hobbies but, as you say, not much for composers.

Just an idea really at this stage and I want to try to gauge whether there is an appetite for such a thing. It would have to be very collaborative but there is so much experience out there that I'm sure people want to share but have nowhere to share it.

Thanks for the generous offer Attila. We'll see what interest there is.

Cheers.
Mike.

I subscribe to a magazine for digital music.. It's called Electronic Musician. Covers anything digital, a lot of great midi articles, etc..

An excellent magazine but like many others, they do tend to concentrate on the production side rather than the compositional side and that's where I think the gap may lie. It'd be great to see something that would detail how to create certain types of styles or music genre where the reader can then have a try and get some reasonable results and satisfaction from it.

There are music composition publications out there but can be too high level and distant. I was wondering if we could draw from our personal experiences from the most basic hobbyist upwards.

Cheers.
Mike.
