Seems like they improved it in Pigments version 2. In version 1 only TUN files worked, and SCL support was buggy, but now SCL works fine. I wish Pigments had a lock feature so some settings like microtuning would persist across patch changes.

Right, so much so that you didn't have the guts to say anything until you knew. How very KVR of you. If anything lacks oomph, it's the Hive example. It sounds like unison from 15 years ago - lots of presence but no punch.Stefken wrote: Sun Dec 29, 2019 8:00 amThat was the first thing I thought; clearly less oumph than the other two.
That's a big part of what I like about it, too. To be flicking through presets and suddenly hear a very obviously granular sound is both strange and wonderful. Better still is finding a preset that doesn't really sound granular and discovering that it is.Cinebient wrote: Sun Dec 29, 2019 1:04 pmi would much prefer Pigments 2 since it gives me more unique stuff compared to Massive X like the sample/granular OSC.

Pretty much the tough guy answer I expected.
When I'm not sure I remain silent and listen.
I only come forward when I have something well informed to say. In this case, it was just a feeling but it got corroborated.

Really? You were serious? It was such a dick response, I had actually assumed you were joking. I only responded so that if someone checked this thread in a year's time, they wouldn't assume we all agreed with you. I can't believe you'd actually think it was OK to come in after the reveal and say what you said. It's pathetic and I would have expected better of you. Very disappointing. It just goes to show how little we really know about each other.

Really? After the Big Reveal?
Do you think that we are on the edge of our seat regarding your little quiz?
It was a passing remark like : hey, we're out of milk or hey I did think that Pigments was the first one.
So, just like your little quiz, nothing to make a lot of noise about. If that's disappointment, I guess you don't know much about disappointement.
Now, if we were out of beer, that would be something worth making noise about.

I had no idea which was which... it’s likely that one could take the same 3 synths and make them sound like one of the other examples.
Pigments sounds pretty good from what I’ve heard of it.

Well, really, that was the main point. If, as EnGee and Stefken believe, Pigments sounds "thin" and/or "weak", that's not something you could have said. I still think, though, that the DUNE sound has some little, hard to define thing about it. It just feels a little bit better and even when I tried a few things to tweak it, it always kept that little advantage.
To be fair, listening to it on my mediocre headphones at work today, Pigments does sound like it only has half the unison of the other two (because that's all it has), but on my studio monitors the difference is far less noticeable. If it hadn't been, I'd have probably restricted the unison on Hive and DUNE to 8 as well, and pretended I was doing it to be fair (which it wouldn't have been, obviously). The Hive one sounds a lot better on the work 'phones, too.
Not at all, although Mushy Mushy seems to have been the exception. But it's not about that. It's that of all the comments you could have made, you chose to say what you did.Stefken wrote: Mon Dec 30, 2019 12:44 amDo you think that we are on the edge of our seat regarding your little quiz?![]()

I have to agree, the Hive example is the least thick sounding, honestly the fullest one to me is the Pigments one. The flanging and 100db boost on Dune doesn't translate to thick to me, it's more biting maybe. All three have uses, I'm always shocked by the idea that all synths must sound thick, fat etc. in the first place. It reminds me of ridiculous music store people trying to sell you on a synth saying it can do "anything".BONES wrote: Sun Dec 29, 2019 10:56 pm How very KVR of you. IMO people get set in an idea because of a few mediocre presets and run with it, I don't find anything too thin about Pigments, and Hive even if thin in this example is capable of thick sounds.

It has some nice sounds but i didnt hear anything mind blowing. I feel like you might have to spend a bit of time dialing in the sounds on Pigments.
The animated graphics are cool but i felt they are not really necessary if you know what you’re doing.
Tbf i didnt really give it a real good go, i installed it while installing the V-collection 7 stuff that i just bought from the marketplace:

Both, Pigments and Hive sounds thin and weak to me. I like both synths a lot, but just can't do anything about it how uninspiring the sound is. Sylenth sounds so much more punchy and snappier, the sound is inspiring right away. No wonders that Sylenth is perhaps most selled and popular synth so far. The thing is the sound on it. It's so good. And the easy to use.

Sylenth sounds plastic and sterile most of the time to my ears. (This is a completely subjective thing though)
I remember when Sylenth1 was new and everyone compared it to the Virus series and they arent really wrong. It definitely sounds good for generic dance edm type songs that need to sound ultra precise.
Nothing wrong with that, but its definitely not for me.
Also did Lennard ever add proper PWM to sylenth?
I think both hive and pigments sound way better and are way more versatile for most things.

sylneth sounds like a clown synth, all the sounds are goofy and weak. you must be insane!keel wrote: Mon Dec 30, 2019 6:23 am Both, Pigments and Hive sounds thin and weak to me.
