Hello Guys,
I have Live 10 and push 2 for more than 2 years. And this morning, I just downloaded Bitwig 3 in order to try the workflow and Grid.
Anyone here uses both bad boys. Are you using Bitwig 3 for your project because of some features that Live 10 didn't have or vise versa ? I'd love to hear your experience regarding "why not have both".
[Edited] : think I am going to read the similar post in Reddit in the mean time. Thanks
Thanks!

I have both and ended up with Bitwig as my main DAW, simply because it suits me better. If Live 10 came out a year erlier, I probably wouldn't have switched and would stay there, but before Live 10 adressed most of the issues I had with 9.7 I "tasted" Bitwig - it was 2.1 or 2.2 at the time - and I didn't looked back. It's just a lot of small things that it does better *for me* and things Live have over Bitwig are not that important *to me*. It's a balancing act.

My last post, I promise!
Bitwig has a Push1/2 support that's second only to Live. It can do 95% of what Live can, minus the fancy instrument / FX visualisations, that simply aren't accessible for non-Live applications.

I left Live and started using Bitwig because I bought a Linnstrument and needed MPE support.
After the fact I found that I liked Bitwig better in a variety of ways. Now if Ableton adds MPE ( who knows if that will even happen ) I’m not sure I would even consider it.

Thanks for pointing me to the link which full of warm discussion. be honest, I always "bypass" the threads of bitwig though I heard quite a number of nice feedback from other channel. Point is I found out that ppl from Live eventually switched to bitwig and never look back so I'd like to know if anyone uses both based on specific requirements/needs.
Cheers!

Oh, so you want something that complements Live rather than replaces it? Then try Studio One!cowby wrote: Tue Dec 31, 2019 4:30 pm Thanks for pointing me to the link which full of warm discussion. be honest, I always "bypass" the threads of bitwig though I heard quite a number of nice feedback from other channel. I use Bitwig and Logic. Their feature sets compliment each other.cowby wrote: Tue Dec 31, 2019 4:30 pm Thanks for pointing me to the link which full of warm discussion. be honest, I always "bypass" the threads of bitwig though I heard quite a number of nice feedback from other channel. Bitwig and Live doesn’t seem like a natural pairing.

Indeed! Logic, Studio One, Cubase or Reaper will do just fine in that role.pdxindy wrote: Tue Dec 31, 2019 8:30 pmI use Bitwig and Logic. Their feature sets compliment each other.

I have used Ableton Live for a while (started with version 7). When Bitwig was released I did not jumped on it at that moment. However, when Bitwig 3 was released I decided to give it a chance. I was pleasantly surprised how well the program "fitted" to me. Maybe because I have used Cakewalk's Project 5 (I still have that program in a neat box), and somehow Bitwig feels a bit similar? I don't kow. Fact is, Bitwig "clicked" with me in a way Ableton Live never had.
Long story short... I ditched Live (before version 10 was released) and I am using Bitwig now.
Oh - and by the way. I use it in combination with Cubase. That's another program that fits me like a glove (and yes I have used Studio One and Cakewalk and so on, but that simply did not work out for me).

I jumped ship to Bitwig too.
I've used Ableton for years up to Live 10 Suite. I got Bitwig 3 and love it so much, that's the end of Ableton.
I'll use it if I have an old mix but that's it. It's not even for the distinct differences like grid, etc. Ableton crashes more than any piece of software I've ever had. I'm sure it's me and user error but I've had zero problems with Bitwig. But beyond the lack of crashes, I LOVE Bitwig 3.
Every time I add a bunch of tracks in Ableton, Ableton's like, whoa whoa whoa, are you SURE about that? Here's a 20 minute video on freezing tracks. Ahhh - you're adding toooo much convolution reveerrrrrrb! I'm feeling kinda crashy. Whoops - crashed. Sorry bout that. Wanna recover?
And it sucks to say it because I've poured years into Ableton buying new versions, etc.
Lots of people record with Ableton with no problems so I'm sure I'm in a small group.
I don't have the patience anymore to troubleshoot. If Ableton's never crashed on you, I'm jealous
Bitwig just does its job. Everything is laid out to record quickly and I don't have to hold my breath when I record or mix. I love Ableton for what it CAN do. I love Bitwig for what I'm doing with it.
Only knock on Bitwig is I wish I could change the color scheme.
But I've been on a tear recording since I got Bitwig.
That's all I care about. Just make it easy for me to make music without the tech problems.
I forgot what it was like to just play and record.
Bitwig 3 is my best purchase of 2019 and probably one of the top purchases I've made for music.
If someone is suffering like I was, get the demo for Bitwig.

I owned Bitwig 1.x and sold it because of abysmal Mac performance and concerns about the development direction.
At that time there was no sign of the Modular interface that had been hyped before launch (now the Grid), and I hated when they introduced the intrusive, screen-hogging popup browser (though others love it).
I'd use Bitwig if it performed well, but on my setup it's still not ready for prime time. I keep testing demos and have Bitwig 8-Track but the performance on my Mac is still wretched (now taking the form of 2-5 second GUI lags for the past 2 versions). I also wish Bitwig mapped more common MIDI controllers out of the box rather than opting for 3rd party scripts which IME are always about 90-95% of the way there (but it's those last few % that really make the difference).
Main daily driver since I sold Bitwig is Ableton Live/Push 2 - other than lack of MPE/comping it does everything I need, in a more intuitive way than other DAWs I've used. I use Logic for some things (Drummer, Alchemy, notation) but often find myself swearing at it.

Hey Winston, I am sorry to hear that you were facing performance issue. And yesterday, I demoed Bitwig 3.1.1 for more than 3 hrs. It's a nice DAW and full of features like Live 10. Regarding sample chopping, I prefer using LIve 10's simpler rather than slice to drum in Bitwig. Simpler can do most of the thing I need in terms of sample slicing, filtering, pitching etc.... And talking about modulation, Bitwig obviously a big winner though I can use LFO/Shaper of Max in Live to do similar thing but Bitwig can do more more than Max. I will not count Grid (I have other Modular synths) and MPE (don't have that board) as a buying factor like I don't always use Wavetable in Live. The GUI is quite nice to me, but hope they can have custom color template later on. Haven't tried Bigwig + Push 2. I know it will work but haven't time to test it out. So the one big thing to buy it or not is the workflow. Let me figure out in these 2 days.Winstontaneous wrote: Wed Jan 01, 2020 11:08 pm I owned Bitwig 1.x and sold it because of abysmal Mac performance and concerns about the development direction.
