When Studio One's Compressor Sidechain Goes Mental

I just discovered this in one of my recent tracks... in version 4.6. This what happens when you want to sidechain vie the built in Compressor Effect dropdown menu. So if you want to side chain your instruments, from many others you can end up with literally dozens that are generated. Surely Presonus have a better way to prevent this and come up with better solution to illustrate the connection to what is being side chained to what, because this is absolutely diabolical...

I really had no idea that there was this rats fest hiding below, and presumed that side-channing would have been handled per instance of one compressor and not to end up with something as useless as this with no reference to anything. Yes it's quick and easy to set up side chain compressors on tracks, by my god it can literally go 'Peat Tong'... if one is working at speed.

I'm sorry, but you're doing something wrong.

It looks like you're sidechaining every track against every other track, so you either don't understand what the effect does or how to use it... Or both.

I've been using side chains for years and yes I do know the principals in how it works, such as off setting the bass from beat so the presence of the bass takes priority over the volume for every beat that reaches a defined threshold you have set (or vice versa). So yes, I am doing a bit more with the side chaining in this track than normal but that isn't the issue I have in a visual sense.

Yeah. I was never really a fan of how Sidechaining works in S1. It's a little clunky. That being that's way too much side-chaining going on in that pic.

Something don't look right here. I would check out some tutorials on youtube.

Still, to me it looks like you're sending signal from EACH track as a sidechain source to EVERY OTHER TRACK which I have to say is a technique I never heard of. But I've only been using DAWs for 2 years so what do I know...

Lol, that's ridiculous, whatever that use case is. :)

How did you even set that up? Did you have all those tracks grouped when you set that up?
I would use the mixer undo, which now lets you go back as many steps as you want.
Then redo it from scratch.

How can you even think it? He's been...
Producing Music For 25+Years & Sound Monitoring FOH at UK Stadium/Festivals for Carl Cox, FatBoy Slim ect
...so SURELY he'd hear there's something wrong with the mix if every track is sidechained against any other??

1. Insert compressor on the track you want to duck
2. Click the + under Sends for the track(s) you want to send to the sidechain input
3. Find the compressor under Sidechains in the menu
4. Profit?
Take a single oscillator, producing a drone. Send it to the wave shaper, altering the tone.
This can be a triangle, Sawtooth or a square. Modulate the pulse width, nobody will care

There is no need to point out the flaw's in INtrancer's logic , it will just go straight over his head .

I'm not sure you used enough side chaining here.

He’s got a point I guess, the side chain system goes all weird when you do that, perhaps the developers were a little shortsighted in assuming nobody would ever have ~40 sidechains per channel. ;)
