I was playing with programming stuff the other night and decided that I could repair Rebirth's bullsh*t that people keep running into.
I made the disk image without the broken installers and completely useless files. Included the Windows Help .hlp file fix into the installer. Fixed the broken file extensions from the previously ported installer so that .rbs files open with double-click again. Removed the unnessesary "ReMark" benchmark test. So, now the ISO image is only 150mb and contains the updated installer:

I also have a 25mb zip archive containing 4000 rbs song files from most of the online archives and ones that are no longer online. Should I put that into my ISO?

Many thanks. I've had the original boxed version sitting on my shelf for a few years now but haven't been able to install it, so it's nice to have this opportunity for a trip down memory lane

No virtual machine required. I could create RB-338 OSX app with Winebottler. Works like a charm...

I had to use an XP Virtual Machine, I guess I'll try this now.

the .exe version is broken here(it doesn't quite boot after install), I'll try the .iso

edit---this seems busted up- I can't get it to work, can any one else, then, what do we need to do?

Thanks muchly again-
I had deleted and uninstalled the original attempt,
where I had just run the .exe you have upped.
I wanted to use the .exe install to run one of my already burnt cds,
I may have 2 versions of the burnt cd, one from the boxed product, and one from ReBirth Museum.
So that failed at the same point-the speed test, so that is not completely edited out- the speed test.
I had uninstalled, and I just tried again with the .iso.
I burnt the disc, then installed, and ran it-
but it wants to do the speed test, actually now it crashes to null just after loading the first information pop-up.
So with both install attempts it crashes pretty much at the details pop-up it does on open.
I'd really like if u could somehow troubleshoot, but only if you'd like to.
If so, what should I do?
I have it running in my VM like I say

nix - what OS is your VM running? Did it pop up the admin rights prompt? Have you tried perhaps rebooting once or launching ReBirth from one of its Start Menu, Desktop shortcut or by browsing to the exe instead?

One of the difficulities I ran into building the instaler is that the installer exe has a funny round-about time of launching a newly installed app. It is not exactly the same as a user launching an app exe, but more like an already running program trying to spawn another exe.

nah- I tried to run it from the default install location,
still no dice.
That CPU test is still in there, that's where it failed.
My VM is quite a separate entity,
I'm sure it still runs fine in there- it's an XP install

99% of errors involve a user, the other 1% are bots hehe

edit- I love ReBirth, one day I will make something nice sounding in it. I got the rights for G-Spot at one point!

It sounds like my alterations don't function in your particular VM. Maybe you can use the old installer without the winhlp32 fix anyhow in XP? My update is more for those who want to use it in modern Windows and Linux without hassle..

oh sorry,
I want to run it in WIN10-
which is where this error behaviour detail is from.
My VM works fine with the original disc/install from Props.
