I got these new toys yesterday. (15 payments no interest  )
This is the first test song to check them out.
I spent several hours with BFD the rest was put together in about an hour.
There are no FX what so ever on this except a little compression, everything is straight from the plugs.
I was blown away by the result.
I mean there is no song here I am basically holding two cords over and over.

You're right -- it's not a song yet! :D

(just joking)

BUT, it sounds really good -- I have Trilogy myself, but haven't been able to use it for MONTHS (long story, moved to a new place, need new computer, etc). Hearing your song with that upright really got me anxious to get my new computer!!! You did a cool job on that, the bass sounds so full and rich.

NOW -- my MAIN question(s) to you are about BFD. I always heard everyone say it is "unprocessed" -- but the drums sound really full and good on your recording?!?

And did you just use THEIR grooves and fills? Or did you actually play in the drum part yourself?

BASICALLY, what I'm getting at is, can you tell me what you think about BFD? Your "first impressions" in other words? Hit on CPU, etc.? I'm SO interested in it!!

(And THANKS for sharing your tune, by the way...)

BFD is an amazing plug. The interface is unbelievable.
Basically what they did is that they recorded the drums with 11 microphones.
You have the direct sound but you also have overhead mics,PMZ room, floor mic, mic under the snare mic over the snare, mic inside the bass drum , mic outside the bass drum just like in any real studio.
By mixing all these mics in the neatly built in mixer you pick up the natural room reverb for incredible results.
Just by creating different mixes from these mics you can achieve tight sound, loose sound, small reverb big reverb and so on.
You can also tune each drum, trim the "send" value
that controls the amount of "bleeding" that occurs for this drum in the other mics and so on.
The possibilities are endless.
You can also mix and match drums and build your own kit from the available pieces. (that's what I did here)
No I did not created my own grooves but I have tweaked and modified the ones that came in the library. (thousands)
The most amazing thing is that every drum has a velocity dial (you can assign midi to it)
And there is also a general master velocity setting.
So what I did is that I assigned my mod wheel to the master and by simply turning the mod wheel I created that quite part in the middle of the song , then back up again with a turn of my thumb. (amazing)

Now to the bad part.
This thing eats RAM for breakfest, lunch and dinner.
(CPU usage is ok)
Yes you can probably work with it with 1/2 Gig only
but if you want to use 32 bit mode and turn on all the mics you will need at least 1 Gig (that's what I have) and even then I had to render the drums first before I could load Elektric Piano (also likes RAM)
the big patches from Trilogy and Atmosphere.
So if you want 2 Trilogy, 2 Atmosphere, 1 Electric Piano and BDF all at the same time you will need 2 Gig.

Sounds good to me . Drums sound really good, Atmosphere sounds excellent, but I dont think you're letting Trilogy shine like it should. Try gettin funkier with the bassline. More change ups etc. Good work tho.

Yes they are amazing plugs aren't they. :)
I would have loved to see you use the upright bass in more of this track. Nice staccato use however.
On atmosphere the string section would have worked well in this demo also. Nice none the less.
BTW, two chords can work if you use them right. 8)

AndrewSimon -- THANKS -- that's exactly the kind of info I'm looking for.

I guess I'd better start selling plasma, 'cause I sure can't afford these toys on what I'm making now... :(

Thanks again, let us hear MORE tunes as you have them...

The kit sounds good.

As for Trilogy - I get very similar results from the freebie Carbon synth (one of the synths in Reaktor) that was in Future Music Magazine about a year ago.

The grooves are cool. The BFD may be worth it just to have those available as MIDI, instead of paying for drum samples.

Then you should have your ear checked. Ok, maybe BFD is not THAT great and maybe the nskit sounds just as great for you. But it does not sound the SAME. Nice song BTW. Havent figured out that All ouput-thing. But it would be nice to adjust each drumsound individually if you know what I mean. I've also got BFD-XFL and 1/2 gig ram. I use 16 bit but I still can't get everything out of it.

Hmmm, very sweet little tune here, nice work! Personally the drums sound great, but the killer for me is that bass - wowsa! Overall a great "celebrate my new toys" track.

Yep the string section is definately a killer.
And the best part about it (this is true for almost all the patches) is that they will fit in nicely in any mix.

Yes this set of drums sounds similar to the NSkit.
But of course BDF is so much more with endless possibilities.

Dude....

BFD is the shizzle!

Post up some more so I can imagine.....
Nskit is alright, I use it with grooves from groove agent sometimes.

Some amazingly pretty cool sounds, but as said, not a track yet and it just cries for some distinct and dynamically driven leads. It tends to just be there this tune and nowhere takes off or stand out.

Would certainly encourage you to work on this further and get some fine melodic content into this.
