I find it always very interesting what you guys hear... this sounds thin... this sounds "sterile"... this sounds digital and the other analog... now I learned a new description: Spire sound "forced"...

My findings: No synth sounds like the other but properly programmed they are all capable of very cool sounds and at the very end... noone cares which synth made which sound... and even good `ol Synth1 can produce very convincing stuff

ANA2 is as well equiped as Spire, Sylenth, Rapid, Serum, Massive at what not... not better...not worse...

In some synths you do things this way round... in others other way round...
If you know what you do with just one of these only you can run multiple projects and noone could ever tell if you used 1 synth or 100 synths to make these songs...

It´s a synth ... what more can one say...

I tell you what, I tried Massive X the other day and it sounds incredible. It has that 'presence' (I know, another word) that I perceive with some hardware synths. I doubt I'll use it often though because I really don't like the UI.

In terms of them all doing the same thing, well yes..up to a point. However, there is an inherent quality a synth has to have for me to want to use it. And the results you achieve from a synth are somewhat dictated by your own connection with the nuances of its own sound and its own layout. In that respect I always fire up ANA2 now as my first port of call unless I'm looking for something it specifically doesn't do.

I do agree with you to an extent... when a track is completed and mixed and has 100+ mixer channels it indeed may be hard to tell what sound was Virus, what was Spire and what was what.

But choosing a synth that has the right sound chartacter for a given task will makes sound-design, processing and mixing much easier.

I know many people at KVR hate these vague "audiophile" terms like "thin", "warm", "cold", "analog" whatever, but there is still no better desciption for various qualities of sound which at least some synth users are actually able to hear and discern.

What I find pretty impressive about ANA2 is how easily it can nail vintage tones, like Roland and Moog etc., but then also be able to do the modern aggressive stuff like Virus onwards. It's down to the versatility of both the oscillators and filters I think.

Just found this. I'm not that much into this kind of trance any more but still have a soft spot for the sounds they are using

If the synths here are all ANA2 and not much extra processing beyond what's typcially used this is indeed impressive

Cough, I did those ones too ;p

But that's ANA1

Indeed, didn't notice :dog:

So they are not very indicative of ANA2 sound quality? If I'm not mistaken it was completely rewritten and sounds different?

They have carried over a lot of the filters and oscillator section, but the core plugin is completely new. ANA2 can sound almost exactly the same, but with much better FX and the new analogue style filters are way better. But ANA2 does trance stuff really well, the unison section is pretty sweet and the envelopes are snappy.

I did a lot of messing about with it when I was doing the factory content, this was a couple of trancey supersaw thingies.

And some weird soundscape stuff, if that's yer thing!

This sounds totally great, somewhat hardware quality I'd say :) Is it all ANA2 with internal effects only?

I can't make up my mind between ANA2 and Tal Mod, I have working demo of Tal with which I've made some cool FM leads and psy squelches (the FM and the filters in this thing are incredible!) but it seems that ANA2 would give me much wider range of sounds actually useable in modern psytrance, at least because of built-in effects and wavetables and more "modern" overall sound.

Everything is ANA2, nothing external.

Something that people regularly miss is the sample oscillator section in ANA2, it's SO useful and can add such a fizz to regular subtractive/wavetable synths. In a way it's like have a simpler version of Omnisphere, especially with the depth of modulation you have with ANA2.

Somehow the sample capabilities are the least interesting thing for me

Like, you could load a cool sounding sample into the synth and have a cool sounding patch, but you need a cool sounding sample first. I'm a kind of guy who likes to make most sounds from init, just for the sake of it.

I'd be somewhat disappointed if the above exampels actually were sample-based.

The trance ones weren't but some of the ambient textures have samples in them, in layers.

Don't knock it 'til you try it :D

For example, this was purely sample based oscillators with some vowel filtering and bitcrushing. I'm modulating the sample start time here to create the time stretch effect, not something you can do with a regular oscillator.

Id love to but my demo had expired long ago. I installed it but didn't have the chance to actually check it out.

Ofc i don't mind some samples in there if the synth allows to mutate them enough. I'm not so keen on patches where essential part of the sound comes from the sample as such (i mean rompler kind of thing)

Oh yeah, see above ^^^^^

I would use a sample oscillator just like a normal oscillator. Same modulation options apply, it's not just a case of letting something run in the background. It's just having different textures and options to layer in with the other stuff.
