There is no fake Boney M, no fake or real Milli Vanilli. Whoever is singing, it's no different from a session musician. What makes singing more special than someone playing, say, guitar on a recording but doesn't show up on the album cover or on stage?

Yep, this was pretty common back then.
In E-Type's breakthrough song, Set the World on Fire, Nana Hedin is singing (like in most, if not all, E-Type songs), and she is also singing in the video. It's one of the dancers though, Dee Demirbag, who is "singing" in the upcoming videos, as well as on stage for, years.
In this video Dee is the singer and dancer.
I guess E-Type got a lot of critisism for this, so Nana Hedin has been credited in several videos after that. Like this one, even though in some scenes Dee is singing.

I would definitely say Moby is a who, as his real name is Richard Melville Hall.
