I can agree with mr scarbee on many of his points.
Think about it- materialism is most peoples primary focus these days. Having the latest and greatest of everything. The funny part of materialism is that people mainly want to accumulate "things" to impress the people that they dislike. It helps you feel better than those people.
I challenge everyone in this forum to purge just 10% of you material items- I guarantee that you will feel better when you do...

Isn't that just like the Rhodes -- still able to spark controversy and heated philosophical debates!
It's true the Scarbee license forbids resale of any kind. Presumably it would be illegal to buy it still shrinkwrapped in a store, but I assume the "licensee" is the person who opens the package, not everyone who pays for it in the retail chain (including resellers who buy up stock from businesses who've gone out of business, as appears to be the case for the outfit I bought my Scarbee from.)
In any case, since any kind of resale is illegal, I probably won't be buying any more Scarbee products. If I buy an instrument and no longer use it, I'd like to be able to sell it. It's Scarbee's right to use whatever model they want, of course.
Scarbee also requires being credited on any commercial product, e.g., "Scarbee, <song title>". Imagine Gibson, Martin, Yamaha, or Steinway insisting on something like that! Since I'm a hobbyist and don't sell my CDs, this is no problem for me.
On the prognostication subthread: I say that since it becomes easier to destroy with every passing year, the time will eventually come when one maniac can ruin it for the whole planet, so we're doomed. In the meantime, we should make the best music we can! That's all I have to say about that.

The future won't bring progress to the masses, but who will keep on resuming itself under this term masses? Laws are fair as long as we choose them, and it makes everyone responsible for the (relative imo) disaster. The way slavery abolition changed the deal is very simple : western people are free to demonstrate, vote, and refuse in many ways. They don't do it at this time, but in the modern times they had, when antique empire's slaves were only involved into local rebellions, and had no right to do so. But we have.
This is why what we call here repeating the past (the decline) is maybe just thinking we are in this cycle (history is not repeating, it's an axiom of history, as well as not to do hypothesis on hypothesis).
When I see a similarity, I always wonder if it is more than the difference I see, and it helps me avoiding to confuse things.
For those stood in the masses (believing they are) will suffer a hard form of control (digicodes, cameras, then science-fiction - precrime diagnosis etc) ; for all of the others, freedom like ever : crossing the streets at green light and all invisible, the unformal community of personal notebook writers and people with their brains inside, plunged into the wordwide librairy.
A happy ending for all the happy few, who get more and more many people across the planet everyday, as ever in known history. Being certain fact, from the beginning of known times and now the City has always become bigger and bigger though, and the eventuality of a global catastrophy is still possible, that's why history is not repeating.
We too often have a false image of the world : The majority of people in the world have a life and are happy with their life, all substraction done of what they are not and can't do and have etc, not just like around our blocks and city press. And I'd add by definition unhappy people are just the framework of the life, human not things, but things somehow, objects at least if they don't show else. They roll the road under your van's wheel, everyone in all this as much as he imagines and understands his interest. This is why there is no decline , even if you thought you saw one observing your carpet with a magnyfying glass.
Now ok but for the rock'n'roll, would be great a global conflagration, in which we could die and see extraordinary things before

Hopefully there's the NASA!
Vote Kerry!

MarkusI hope things will just change to the better eventually, but I admit that I'm not too optimistic about near future. However I'm very optimistic about the future a bit ahead. I'm sure we will develop a brigter and better culture.

Actually, I believe I was mistaken. I bought a few things lately and mixed them up. In this case, the guy seems to be an odd-lot reseller of some sort, but RSP doesn't fit into his usual product portfolio.
Rather than post the guy's URL here, if you send me email at the address on my website, Learjeff.com, I'll email it to you.
Do you object to the sale of an unopened copy of your product? I don't believe the license text is even available to read until the box is opened.
Oh, btw -- the seal I tore off is completely gone, so I can't say anything other than that my initial impression when I opened it was it had not been opened before. It was a circular, clear seal with some writing on it, like I often see on software packages and I didn't pay a lot of attention.
If you want to discuss this further, just email me, or post it on the Scarbee forum.

Whatever happened I will make sure your copy will be fine - don't worry. If there is a registration card inside try register at our site and if that works the guy hasn't used it before and it's all ok.
PS. Yes we need to have license reworked a bit about credits - it's a "relic" from the license from Nemesys days where we did first sample libraries.
Offcourse you don't HAVE to credit our libraries on albums - but it is always nice though..
Now please enjoy the RSP73 and don't think about this anymore. I bet you will have fun playing it because it feels like buying a real instrument - not a sample library. This is the spirit it was created in..
take care

Thanks
I registered it as soon as I opened it, no trouble at all.
For sure I will enjoy the RSP -- it's a great sound, and a masterfully executed sample set. The only thing that makes it NOT feel like most real Rhodes is how even the keyboard response is. And yes, this is a GOOD thing! There are some aspects of the Rhodes that are not best to copy.
Right now I have my rhodes set up and it's interesting to compare the RSP, my samples, and the real thing. Each has its particular highlights -- but I sure can't use my real Rhodes with MIDI! And while I like my sample set, it's rough and amateurish compared to Scarbee. That stands to reason given I did it in one day. It's obvious that a lot more time and effort went into the RSP.
Thanks for your consideration.
Jeff

Well this entirely depends on you master keyboard. If you have a weighted keyboard like a fatar and set it to normal velocity curve (a bit hard) then it will be as the real deal. If you don't have a weighted keyboard and set velocity to a more linear velocity curve, it will feel very different - easier to plsy but less realistic!learjeff wrote:Thanks

Sorry, I didn't make myself clear!
Most Rhodes have a rather uneven action, even back when they were brand new. Some keys are louder than others with the same keystroke. Yes, this is mostly a matter of adjusting the tines and pickups, but it's also a matter of variation in the actual key mechanisms.
RSP, on the other hand, is extremely well regulated, more or less the "ideal rhodes". I play using an MR76 weighted keyboard, which has an excellent action for playing Rhodes and grand piano sounds. RSP feels and sounds great using my keyboard.
