hi
I was hearing a lot about AA, like it's great for mixing, loops ... I downloaded the demo yesterday and:
a) does it support anything else than mme drivers (f.i. wdm or asio)?
b) does it crash often (it did once yesterday)?
c) does it support vsti also (I only saw midi import).
what are your feelings about it?
thanks
k
(i have tracktion btw, but would consider getting something different to mix in + loop handling, t2 might do the job, tho)

Audition is awesome for editing audio, multitrack HD recording & mixing.
Audition supports MME, WDM & Direct X, but alas not ASIO. If I'm correct it can host VST effects but not VSTi (synths, instruments)
I still use its predescessor CoolEditPro and that is quite stable. That is, crashes much less often than Cubase.
I'd keep Traktion for the Midi stuff, and use ReWire to sync both applications. Then the audio of Audition goes through Traktion, and thus through ASIO.

hi
I didn't see the wdm option.
I'll surely keep T for midi work. rewire won't do as they both only function as hosts.
It only mixing that I'm after (and loops), so AA might do the job.
thanks

It should be there according to Adobes tech support:
Code: Select all
Choose Options > Device Properties, and choose your main device from the pop-up menu on the Wave in and Wave Out pop-up tabs. If you use Windows XP or 2000, select "Try as WDM" on both the Wave In and Wave Out tabsBummersoulata wrote:rewire won't do as they both only function as hosts.

I think you might be confusing Audition with sequencers, it's only an audio editor, so it's not meant to host vst instruments.
I've never used the midi or rewire so can't help on that.

That's true. If you wish to use AA as your main host (as I am tending to do now) then you need to use a ReWire client for your MIDI editing and VSTi hosting. I personally use Live 4 and Reason for this (as ReWire slaves within AA) but other alternatives would include FL Studio, Orion and Project 5...
Well then AA is your programIt only mixing that I'm after (and loops), so AA might do the job.
thanks

The lack of ASIO drivers is only an issue if you wish to do MIDI editing in another programme that is itself opened within Audition as a ReWire slave, in which case Audition will have disabled the slave programmes own ASIO driver and replaced it with MME / WDM.
Like you I use Tracktion, but I cannot imagine T2 coming close to AA in terms of effects and mixing. I find in Tracktion that mixing works just fine, but because there is no "mixer console" it is easy to neglect paying attention to the mixing. In AA I find that I spend more time getting the mix correct - and acheive far better results.
By the way, you CAN open AA from within Tracktion in the properties of an audio clip under "v iew source material" tab. In AA's edit view you can then apply Audition's great effects, which include convolution based reverb, 30 track EQ, etc.
Lastly, I find that audio I record in Tracktion apperars fine according to Tracktion's metering, but when I open Tracktion-audio-recordings in Audition or other software, audio sometimes clips. I wonder if there is a problem with Tracktion's metering?
Anyway, you can download an unrestricted demo of AA from their site - 30 day trial in which you can even save

Does cubase crash?
Nuendo2 is sehr stable.
Cooledit was poo, AA is poo....
I dunno, seems like a lot of poo stuff out there.
Try as many different progs as you can before you commit. For straight audio editing (although it does do midi) and fooling around with loops... Nuendo 1.5 upwards (at 2.2.x now)

I've been playing with the Audition demo for couple of weeks and like it, and the full version should be winging its way to me right now in fact.
I especially wanted something that could extract a vocal from a song and it can do that (about as well as any app can that is). Its also a lot cheaper than Wavelab which costs way beyond what I can justify spending on such a thing.
Not sure what you meant by importing vsti but it does support vst and directX effect plugins.

I can highly recommend Adobe Audition 1.5
Wonderful tool, and probably the most used in my system, I use it for mixing loops exported (initially from FL but now expoting bounced tracks directly from Tracktion) – sort of like a mini Sonar those two combined.
Does not support VSTI instruments, but does support the VST effects and directX effects, as mentioned in this thread.
Stable as it can get – plus if for some remote reason it does crash, it remembers where it was on a restart – very very rare occurrence a crash.
I had Acid Pro 4, I prefer by miles Audition (particularly the seamless switching from mixing loops and wave snippets to the wave editor – this is a real class tool, everything you could need for editing waves, right there)
Best regards,
Spe3d

thanks everybody
esp. headquest and spe3d. that's the answer I was hoping for actually.
i'll give it a try over the weekend (although it'll be hard to squeeze a few hours with it in my busy schedule.
it seem more "for me" than sonar or cubase/nuendo and it's waaaaaay cheaper (that's always a factor here)
see you (keep comments coming)
k
p.s.: btw, how are things going with the hosting, spe3d? i hope you're ok. i'll have to update my site for sure (but somehow don't find any time for it with recording sessions on horizon)

In addition here...I love my AA 1.5 as a wave editor...one thing though is that it doesn't eat all VST FX so let's hope that gets tweaked in the next version...

HI
I tried to buy this a few weeks ago on the US site but it kept re-directing me to the more expensive UK site!
Is AA availible from retail outlets or just the UK distributors?

I bought from Amazon. Has a 2-week lead time though, but hey, you save around £40.original flipper wrote:HI

I prefer to use Audition over Sonar for detailed editing, for final Master prep and MP3 export. AA is as reliable and solid as it can be. It seems to handle audio loops very well but I rarely do that sort of thing anyway and since rewire scares the heck out of me I don't use it as a main project hist when using VIs. One very cool thing is that you can drag audio from Sonar in Audition for editing. The CD extract and burning feature is very easy as is the file format conversion.
Highly recommended!
