Decent host for basic video scoring?

Hi! I'm trying to branch out and work on some simple video scoring personal projects, but my host (which SAYS it will load videos) crashes silently to the desktop on even the shortest, smallest, most simple videos (and so-called 'support' is useless, they're beyond clueless). Remove the 'feature' if it doesn't work damn it!

Anyway, a friend recommended Digital Performer but at US$500 it's a bit much for a hobby (lol). Does anyone know of anything less expensive?

All info appreciated!

Assuming it's Ableton you're talking about (I don't know why you hide it, if you're asking for DAW recommendation...) then I'd say Reaper or 2nd hand copy of Studio One 4 Pro would fit the bill and be cheap. I actually have Studio One 4.6 Pro license for sale, so PM me if interested.

You could use this vst to play video and see if that works better than daws own handling

It does not give you thumbnails, but worked fine for me. But look for restriction on various daws that does not move video position unless transport is running.

I used it for a long time with Cubase, waiting for their new video engine when quicktime was banned. And still continued using after this cpu hog new engine in Cubase. I saved 20% cpu using this vst instead of Cubase engine.

But moved to StudioOne, and I don't even notice I run video. They did a real good job and only use vst player when needing a second video to run in parallell when I changed scenes length in original video.

I only do own films score.

I'm using Waveform, and I didn't want to scare folks off a host that does everything else pretty well. But the video handling is hopelessly buggy...

I'll look into Studio One, thanks! If there's a demo (I assume there is) I'll spend some quality time with it.

Thanks for the recommendation! Not quite ready to buy yet, though.

Mixcraft maybe?

I'm liking Studio One! It's at the top of my budget range for a hobby, but I can save a few months (use a little self-discipline lol). It's more intuitive for me than Digital Performer (and %100 cheaper), so that's a plus.

I'll just use my lame Acid Pro until the dosh comes in.. sigh..

Thanks again for the suggestion!
