hi,

I know I've been quite distracted, been busy, and I just learned that there is a logic pro 6, and it is still on os 9, ant it has just been updated.

I own logic gold 6 and a powerbook g4 titanium 1ghz (which means it still runs os9 on boot). so I guess logic pro 6 could be the last host advance that my computer can take, since Logic on osX is kind of glitchy here and more for a G5 or something.

Since logic pro 7 (os x only) came out since, my question is, is there any chance I can still get logic pro 6 for my powerbook?..

thanks.

You can try americanmusical.com They still have it on the books. But first check to see if you can still register and authorize it.

BTW, I'm on a Quicksilver 933, and Logic 6 Pro (and platinum for that matter) runs just fine for me. What kind of problems are you having?

Post

you mean on osX?

as I add instrument and effects plugins, the audio starts glitchering or stuttering or whatever quite sooner than on os9.

I have 512 of RAM. what about you?

how far can you get with logic, in terms of plugins and tracks?

Oh ok. You are referring to the fact that OS X uses more system resources than OS 9. True indeed.

I never did any benchmarks, but Os X was always slower than OS 9 for me. Less effects, tracks, and instruments. But it has gotten better as OS x has progressed (panther is way better than Jaguar, but still slower than OS 9).

I'm running Panther 10.3.5 on a G4 933, with 1024MB and 2 HDD's (60 and 120). If there are any specific tests you'd like me to run, I'll do them when I have some spare time...

There is an article ( http://emusician.com/mag/emusic_tracking_big_cats/ ) that deals with optimizing OS X for audio. I haven't applied its suggestions yet, so I can't vouch, but the author did come up with some very impressive stats in his b4/after comparison.

great info!!

truth is I havent installed logic on panther. Ill try it out.

Thanks for help and benchmark offering! :)

by the way, how is logic pro 7 in terms of speed?

Post

Don't have it yet :x

I hear various things, some say its faster, some say its slower, some say its about the same. But I think the prevailing opinion is that its about the same, but maybe a pinch faster than Logic Pro/Platinum 6 OS X version.

You should hang out at http://OSXAudio.com. Plenty of good info there, as well as a great number of Logic users.

Logic 7 is much faster interface wise... I'm running it on a Dual G5, and it seems to go a lot quicker dropping menus etc. The cpu usage seems higher, but that may be just the scaling on the cpu meter being different from 6.4 to 7.0?? There are a lof of new features and interface tweaks, but I suspect it uses a lot more system resources... New instruments are truly awesome, but wack the cpu... I haven't really hammered it yet, but the dual processor use will probably offload some of the hit!
