Unify 2

@getdunne
A feature request. I would love if Unify would be "equipped" with the possibility to "round robin" the layers, similar to the Reason Rack Extension Distributor from Blamsoft (see YouTube vid). Even more lovely would be if this could be randomized as well (like in Distributor).

Mac Mini M4 Pro | 14 Cores (10P/4E) | 48GB RAM | Studio One | Reason | Bitwig Studio | Logic Pro | FL Studio | Cubase Pro | Waveform | Reaper | Renoise | ~1000 VSTs/AUs | ~350 REs

Request: Make double-click on the macro knobs open the linked parameters page. Right now double-clicking resets them to 0, which is easy to do with a quick click-drag instead. I know alt-click can open the linked parameters page, but alt-clicking makes me take my hand off the mod wheel!

Question: Can macro knobs not send cc data? One of the reasons I bought unify was to be able to edit CC curves for some of my more annoying-to-control instruments. Maybe what I'm after can be achieved with some free midi effect I can load into Unify?
Double-click is used throughout Unify for "reset to default", so I wouldn't want to change that. However you can RIGHT-click to open the knob menu, and reach the Linked Parameters from there.

Macro knobs WILL send CC data in the next Unify release coming this week!

Some presets like Bass 3am for instance, at least for me, are over modulated and have to be tamed down a bit. I know I can save users presets, but to have to come back to a factory preset that needs manual adjustments when you don't really want to save user presets is a pain. If you're worried about bad overwrites or something, you could restore defaults from backup or something. Anyway,, I hope this request could be made possible. It is a pet peeve of mine when you can't overwrite factory ones.
I hear you, and we hope to make improvements in this area. The main issue is that, the way Unify works now, installing an update to the Standard Library would wipe out your changes. We have some ideas for how to fix this, but they'll take a while to implement. In the meantime, saving your own modified patches into a new library (call it e.g. "My Standard Lib") is recommended.

Oh, you can be sure this one is on our list!

Double-click is a bit too error-prone for me, too - it is too easy to do when you don't want to. Several devs use Ctrl+click for "Reset to default". Please reconsider.

How is the new Windows installer (no forced reboot, dialogue to select locations etc) coming along?

New installers coming in next Unify update, hopefully tomorrow Feb 3 2020). I'm doing a bunch of testing to make sure we don't dig ourselves into a bigger tech-support hole with the changes.

Ctrl plus Left-click is problematic, since it's used as an alternate for Right-click on Mac, but I appreciate your concern that double-click shouldn't be used for "information-destroying" actions like "reset to default" because it's too easy to trigger accidentally. I generally use Right-click/Ctrl-click for menus or other pop-up items, and Alt-click (Option-click on Mac) for "I know what I'm doing" expert shortcut operations. How about Alt-click for "reset to default"?

Can others please comment here on mouse-key combination preferences?

I’m going to have to vote for ctrl-alt-click just for old time’s sake! If only we had a meta key as well.... :D

Alt+click would also be good for me.

NB: Alt+click is currently occasionally used. e.g
"Option-click (Alt-click on Windows) the (Macro) knob to bypass the ops menu and open the links editor."

Alt+click or Ctrl+click for resetting values would work for me. I think most of my VI's use Ctrl+click on Windows. Maybe they use a different combination on Macs, but I don't know.

Whatever you do, please make it easy to open the linked parameters page on a macro knob (easier than right clicking and then clicking on the option in the pop up menu), because I'm going to be using that thing alllllll the time.

On Macs there are commonly four modifier keys used in key combinations: command (equivalent to the Windows key), option (equivalent to the Alt key), Control (which is indeed often used in conjunction with clicking for right-click in situations with a one-button Mac mouse), and Shift. Personally I think for a Mac command+option+click might be the clearest for a "do you really want to do this" action, as it's somewhat reminiscent of command-option-escape (which is roughly equivalent to the Windows control-alt-delete).

Already done. Alt (Option on Mac) + left click anywhere on the knob.

What is the new ver #. I see 1.03 mac and 1.02 win. Would you mind putting dates on the account's download page? Would make it easier to keep track of versions.

+1
Those of us not tracking the daily development of this fine plug would be greatly aided by the publication dates of version upgrades.

thank you.

1.0.3 for Mac and 1.0.2 for Windows ARE the latest versions. The next release is in testing now, and should be available before the end of this week. Version number will most likely be 1.0.6 for both Mac and Windows. (The fact that we have different numbers now is an anomaly; it should occur only very rarely.)

A note about version numbers: I have to bump up the number every time I do new installers--even internal releases for testing--to ensure the installers correctly update all files. Because some releases are only internal, i.e., we find a problem and have to do another release to testers, you will often see version numbers "jump" between releases. If you do, it doesn't mean you missed anything.

Adding dates directly on the downloads will be complex, as the PlugInGuru e-commerce system doesn't support that. It will be far simpler to add a Release Notes page to the Unify manual at https://pluginguru.net/unify/manual. Eventually I'll have Unify itself let you know when a newer release is available, but that will take some time.

I see the the 59$ intro price has been extended to March 1st! Any hope we'll have a demo version out before then?
