If you think Ableton looks like that you need to get your eyes tested...
Should I?.... :dog:

I left Ableton Live because I had to get some food. Then I came back to it.

Yeah, actually they are exploiting the "we are indie" "we are subculture" "we speak for academy of modern art" attitude to evade criticism. They are just recycling their old philosophical gem left by their old dev team like monolake and are all shallow marketing tactic.

So bizarre to read through this thread. Normally it's "Why did you leave Propellerhead (errr - Reason Studios) Reason?" I didn't realize Ableton's Live had such issues.

Isn't Live like the most popular DAW ever or something?
Win 10 | Ableton Live 11 Suite | Reason 13 | i7 3770 @ 3.5 Ghz | 16 GB RAM | RME Babyface Pro| Akai MPC Live 3 & Akai Force | Roland System 8 | Roland TB-3 | Roland MX-1 | Dreadbox Typhon | Korg Minilogue XD

Now that you mentioned it, there's no "Why you left Reason" thread... :dog:

3d emulation on UI elements, not 3D elements. What I mean is using shadows and lights to give UI elements the impression they have a third dimension. Ableton Live has a flat design, which I like, and Reason uses shadows and lights on some elements to emulate three dimensional objects in its UI, and in my opinion they do better than Bitwig

I know what you mean (by "3D elements"). I just don't know where you see them? Is it the buttons on the top bar and knobs on devices? Sure, they're not flat but still really subtle and understated compared to Reason, that has regular shadows on their devices:

And knobs (with a visible 'notch') are necessary in Bitwig, because they show where current value of parameter is and the ring around it shows modulation. Since Live can't have both automation and modulation simultaneously, it doesn't need it.

Obviously all this is very subjective and I can see why someone wouldn't like Bitwig because of it.

'leaving' Ableton (Live) for Bitwig Studio ... it's like saying you stopped speaking spanish so you could speak argentinian instead.

They are in every button and also in the metering display to name a couple of examples, they're very slightly there but they are there... and it's not that I don't like Bitwig in general, I don't like its UI, not only because of those 3D buttons but because of how it looks in general, it looks very chaotic, the UI tries to do too much in little space and there aren't enough elements to help the beholder focus on these elements.

Maybe you love it that way, and maybe millions of other users do as well, but to me it just looks awful because I am more into minimalistic designs that are easy to understand which doesn't necessarily mean that the app does less. But that's another discussion.

I don't know if I will ever use Bitwig some day but for now Reason and Live offer me enough features to make music without hurting my eyes so I'll stay using them ;)

Nada que ver aqui.

They both have clip launcher, sure... But the way the modulation system is integrated into Bitwig makes it more like Live with a rock solid functional max for live.

Then there are all the little work flow things that make a big difference ...
