Tonight I recorded acoustic guitar on tracktion but it was so bloody quiet despite having everything cranked up. The soundwave was really small/narrow. For a second I thought I must've accidentally left the 'minus 10db' feature on my condenser mic switched on, but I hadn't. I tried placing the mic really close to the guitar but it was still extremely quiet. I'm a bit of a newbie with this sort of thing so hopefully it's something really basic that I'm missing that one of you guys can point out! :D

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Does the mic need phantom power?

Unfortunately, you're going to have to check every link in the chain and its gain staging. If you're lucky, it's just an unexpected dial you didn't know about set wrongly (usually the mic input in my case). On the bright side, you get to learn about gain staging. On the dark side, you have to learn about gain staging.
Wait... loot _then_ burn? D'oh!

Or you are playing really really quiet?

My thought too, since there is some signal. My Behringer has a switch on the back for phantom power that I turned off once. Took me ages to realise what had happened.. :x :scared:

Will definitely make a big difference...

Did you set the gain properly? Are you using a mic input & phantom power?

what make of guitar? is it a tennis racket?
This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.

Or an air guitar? Those are a bloody nuisance to record!

Get a Focusrite Clarett. Switchable "air" option for each input.

Thanks a lot guys, much appreciated. Your tips put me in the right direction and I've now solved the problem :)

Btw it was something to do with one of the knobs on my audiobox. Very rookie error on my part lol. Thanks again.

you got to be careful with your knob on your box
