Why you left Reason?

The walled garden. I grew with Reason since the first version up to 4 and leveraged its virtues. Then I realized I was working very hard to compensate for it. Rewiring in apps was one thing but Rewiring in apps to bring plugins into Reason was ridiculous. It was a lot easier to Rewire Reason into a main DAW. While it is hard letting go of all your tools at once as soon I replaced them I never looked back.
A decade later I upgraded to Reason 10 to get Europa and to encourage them and I gave it another try. Never forgot the workflow like riding a bike but it was evident it is inferior to what I can do now. Couldn't bother to Rewire it in but if Reason 11+ comes down to a negligible price maybe I'll try running it as a plugin to load up my old combinators and patches. But the inflexible tiny UI is a major barrier.

Not fallen through the cracks, just beaten to death already.

Reason IMO has a "plasticky", flat sound that I don't like. I also don't like its emulation of a hardware rack. Software should go beyond the limitations of hardware design.

Can you prove this nonsense? For example with a report from psychiatric hospital or at least from laryngologist?

I bought 1.0 when it came out, used it until version 2.5 as a rewire rack of gear. It was incredibly CPU efficient at the time. I bought a faster computer and Komplete 2 and didn't bother with Reason much anymore.
I upgraded to v10, and I'm a bit disappointed with the fact that Rewire never saw a super charged newer version, we're just getting a VST/AU version that doesn't act as a multi. At least in OS X you can emulate to a degree Rewire with MTC, Soundflower or a paid audio routing application etc. and it's allowing the OS to distribute CPU resources etc. The one thing about a VST3 version is it's not as easy I believe to use more than one core on a computer, and you could easily build a Rack that killed your CPU etc. Rewire is the same, but a newer version 'could' have been like an MIDI and audio routing hub for your computer. Those of us that jump around in DAWs would be happy with something that didn't have a master and slave relationship that did this.
Anyway, honestly I'm shocked about how untouched the GUI is, I like the sound of Reason, but it's not where I would want to write, so I'm happy enough with the VSTi.

I've stopped using it as a DAW because of two main things:
1) It embeds the audio into the project file. I work a lot with audio recordings and like to save alternative or incremental versions of songs, so I end up with gigs upon gigs filling up my harddrive for no good reason.
2) No good way to loop record MIDI. You have to manually hit a small button at the end of each cycle or it'll overdub it. Ideally they'd have full comping for MIDI or maybe something like Ableton's Capture.
Still use the Rack in other DAWs and like it a lot.

Because everything is super f.... small! Tiny, blur and small. Gui is running 30fps = everything is laggy as hell. User experience is just that bad. They need to address this asap. And this is sad, because I like Reason a lot, but I just can't use it. Also couple of my music making friends feel same. They have moved on to S1 and Live.

You're doing something wrong, because it EITHER big & blurry OR small & sharp. Not both at the same time

What name change?Jace-BeOS wrote: Tue Feb 04, 2020 1:02 am Now, with this stupid ass generic name, it’s going to be far worse. It’s also just a damned stupid and boring name change.

Yes, certainly doing something wrong…
I guess it comes down to people using wrong resolutions for their screens. I use a 16:9 24ìnch screen running in FullHD (ie. the recommended resolution for a monitor of this size) and of all the DAWs I have Reason looks the best and it is perfectly sized. The Props are absolute pros when it comes to GUI design and I fear that stuff starts falling apart once they allow resizing. If you feel you need to rescale Reason then I assume this means your screen resolution is wrong and you can thank the Props for notifying you about it.
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/hel ... resolutionNative resolution
LCD monitors, including laptop screens, typically run best at their native resolution. You don't have to set your monitor to run at this resolution, but it's usually recommended in order to ensure you see the sharpest text and images possible. LCD monitors generally come in two shapes: a standard proportion of width to height of 4:3, or a widescreen ratio of 16:9 or 16:10. A widescreen monitor has both a wider shape and resolution than a standard ratio monitor.
If you're unsure of your monitor's native resolution, check the product manual or go to the manufacturer's website. Here are typical resolutions for some popular screen sizes:
19-inch screen (standard ratio): 1280 x 1024 pixels
20-inch screen (standard ratio): 1600 x 1200 pixels
22-inch screen (widescreen): 1680 x 1050 pixels
24-inch screen (widescreen): 1900 x 1200 Pixels
(that page is for Win7, but of Course it's the same for other OS)

That’s my opinion, sorry you don’t like it. Asking me to “prove” my opinion is ridiculous.

You are of course entitled to your opinion. But as a matter of fact it makes you look like a fool who basically has no clue at all and just spreads some nonsense he heard somewhere to appear cool.

Disagree. There are two components to your comment - objective & subjective:Ed A. wrote: Tue Feb 04, 2020 3:48 pmThat’s my opinion, sorry you don’t like it. Asking me to “prove” my opinion is ridiculous.
1) Objective, i.e. is Reason's sound flat & plasticky? This can be easily verified by playing the same audio file or same VST & patch in Reason and other DAWs and comparing the render. This will prove there's NO significant difference and it was debunked on this very forum several times. If there's anything we could call "Reason sound" it would be the sound of its devices - synths & effects. But the same can be said about any DAW and any 3rd party VST.
2) Subjective, i.e. whether you like the "flat & plasticky" sound, assuming it was really there.
Obviously I'm not objecting to the latter, as this is your opinion. But the former is a simple matter of it being true or false, which is perfect to discuss and disagree about.

Not necessarily - it's enough that his Windows scaling factor is anything other than 100% or 200%. Then it gets really bad really quickly.jens wrote: Tue Feb 04, 2020 3:44 pm...this means your screen resolution is wrong and you can thank the Props for notifying you about it.
