any Acousmatic / electroacoustic musicians?

Hi folks,

any musicians in the acousmatic & electroacoustic genre around here? It's quite a specialized field and small community, so it's always fun and interesting to discover new artists and share with them.

I don't really bother with genres, since I always find something I like in any genre, but I'm always interested in learning new things, so... have you got any "typical" examples?

I somehow remember the term "acousmatic" in relation to musique concrete, is that correct?

I don't know what that is either. I use electronics (computers) to create the illusion of a performance of acoustical musics, and in orchestrating them I mix electric and acoustic all the time. But I don't know from a genre and I don't define things in terms of genre myself, much.

Yeah well acousmatic music has a historical basis and roots in musique concrete, and they're often referred as the same genre or sub-genre as well. Basically, music that uses sounds you can't see the originating source, manipulating sounds beyond recognition and arrange them to form a piece. Sonic art, electroacoustic, etc, sometimes I simply use the term 'experimental' cause there are so many terms & definitions! Anyways, it's definitely a fascinating world for pure sound and sonic lovers, I keep discovering and getting more and more interested by it, it's quite addictive.

Since it's a very experimental and opened genre, it's kinda difficult to really nail a typical example but still, here are (to me at least) some pieces that would fall into the acousmatic genre I guess:

The idea with the terms used was not to categorize 'this is it' and 'this is not', but more to catch the attention to anyone who's interested and into this kind of sound experiments and researches, I could say.

I was being somewhat facetious I am most definitely interested in this or anything else along an experimental vein (though I hate the term "experimental"). I started a long time ago with Musique Concrete and the work of Xenakis, the two Pierre's: Schaefer and Henry, Ligeti and so many others.

The links you provided are great and I have already been following a couple of those people. Particularly Stavropolous.

when I was at SFCM, I focused on electronic music lab; and tape manipulations moreso than the Buchla which was so much work per the benefits for me. at that time I was less into found sound than recording a sound myself and expanding on it via tape and mixing, loops and running the tape over the playback and record heads of more than one machine etc. I haven't done in some time however.

I did play some of my compositions during studies at the ICEM (Institut für Computermusik und elektronische Medien) "the acousmatic way" on 26 speakers and a subwoofer This was really great. I wish I had the chance to do it once week, because it's amazing how much you can do with sounds/music routing live on so many speakers

Indeed, must be quite mindblowing and amazing! A speaker and monitor setup similar to this?

But since this type of music is quite niche, do you guys know any music forums somewhere specifically created for discussions on acousmatic, electroacoustic / sound art music? Very difficult to find such discussions among artists into this field.

I missed this thread waaay back when. I am extremely interested in such stuff. I don’t know if i have anything online that would qualify (yes, i also shy away from genres and labels but i’ll make an exception for this.) I’ve been a fan since my (lucky) days of listening to wkcr and wfmu, etc.
I consider things made with strange samples in addition to typical hack/mangle audio to often fit this category. I started with tape loops, ‘feedback machines’ made with digital delays and mixers, and cassette. Wow, things have changed. Thanks for resurrecting this thread.

Yep, very interesting field of experimental music that intensely focus on the sounds in term of tone, texture, position in the space and the dynamics. Unfortunately, I find that acousmatic/electroacoustic music in general tends to be very academic often stuck a stiff protocol, I'd almost say snob sometimes. And strangely, it's quite difficult to find artists creating this kind of music who are not involved in university classes or some kind of academic formation. Quite difficult to find self-thought artists/musicians creating acousmatic music.

Still looking for a forum or a place dedicated to this kind of music, that is not related to a university circle or something. Very niche unfortunately.
