Well, he rather had 303K/year for doing nothing.

Well it won't affect the purists that think the TB just sounds that much better, but I have to wonder how many are out there now? The DF guy's business has got to be slowing these days. It was built around a shaky business model anyways.Scotty wrote: Sun Feb 09, 2020 12:26 pm Yes I just read that post that they are wanting to work with other modders and they may do more than one version. That complicates it for Devil Fish. I still think there will be some people who will pay for their service if they are using really high quality components - not very many people could afford their services before and the supply of 303s was drying up. Still an opportunity for them but they will be trying to guess where Behringer is going which is a difficult spot to be in if you are trying to build a business based on a moving target.

Behringer has an opportunity here to deliver a product that is better than the DF mod. With the help of the modding community to which they are already reaching out.
- create a mod that is more musical and has a larger sweetspot than the DF
- optimised design; the DF mod is just amateur hour on design level
- sequencing: better sequencer that allows live tweaking while the pattern runs, better daw integration
There is also the XOXbox and Avalon that Behringer can look at. As they state, they might make multiple mods.
Not sure how many people will go for the DF mod at 1200 dollars then...
As for Roland. They clearly have chosen for the DSP route. I think people would kill for analog re-issues and if you look at the prices Korg is asking for re-issues, floating on the waves of the second hand market prices, they could make a lot of money on it.
I am wondering why they even released the TD-3 in it's current state if they are now considering even more modded versions? I'd have just waited another year for a more robust product at a bit more cost (200-300 dollars) had I known.

i think they can be switched off. so you still have a 303. it just has built in extras.Reefius wrote: Sun Feb 09, 2020 7:20 pm I just wonder why anyone would want a modded TB-303, which in the end no longer sounds like a 303 because of the mods.
now you can have both anyway.
and more besides it sounds like.
wish theyd stop pissing about with 303s and get on with my cat (to commemorate my cats castration) and that korg thing, get them on the streets

Their SE02 is a hybrid. They should make more stuff like that, IMHO.Stefken wrote: Sun Feb 09, 2020 12:09 pm As for Roland. They clearly have chosen for the DSP route. I think people would kill for analog re-issues

they gave him the courtesy of offering money for his idea/service.... basically putting his name on it
he wanted more money, now he has nothing and they will add their own mods.
he is the only one who lost out, because he wanted more money. That's greed.

Both parties had their own proposal which would bring them gains, those not being compatible doesn't necessarily equal 'losing out by wanting more'. Neither wanted to pay the other party's price, is all. The fact that, purely financially, a deal might have made sense doesn't change that.

Imo DF overplayed his hand. Plan A was even more excessive at around 46 euro to be paid for IP per unit sold. Plus he would get tons of free exposure/publicity.
Now he has nada.

Yay, my TD-3 is on it's way! So I have 1 or 2 days left to buy matching lipstick

there was some recent very low pricing with retailers, around Black Friday. made me wonder if it was a stock clearout in preparation for a new 'murdered out' version. think they did the right thing sticking to the original format for this release though.
conclusion after owning it for a few months is that i *would* like to mod it, within reasonable bounds, because i've explored the limits of the original sound (insofar as it might be accurate or not), and feel ready to take it a bit further, without straying too far. being able to tweak a little more out of it would be nice. and very pleased it isn't an item 'worth' 2000eu.
