:hihi: I imagine this topic will earn me mortal enemies here on KVR, but still..

Never thought I'd say it, but I'm getting kind of bored of synthesizers. I still like them, but just maybe need to take a break from them and focus more on sampling and recording.

I'm starting to get more drawn to the sounds of real recorded instruments and samplers.

Anyone else getting tired of the bleep bloop, sounds of synthesizers??

The hole is deeper than the hum of its farts

I've been fairly tired of them for years now, and for the same reasons.

Synths just simply can't match the human touch and expression of acoustic instruments.

The other thing is that the more "interesting" a synth timbre becomes, the less musical it tends to be. There's all kinds of really cool pads and stuff out there, but they're useless for melody or bass. The sounds that are useful for melodies are the more basic ones, which also tend to sound a lot cheesier.

I do still prefer synths for basslines most of the time, though. Pulsewave under lowpass filter.

I'm sucker for synth sounds, especially ones that are mimicking acoustic ones, would use synth string patch before sampled one, dislike bleep blops and plenty of other synth sounds tho.

In small doses they can occasionally be useful. On balance, better than the ukulele.

Synths are awful things, worth maybe a penny on the dollar.

Just to save everyone trouble, I'll pay up to TWO cents on the dollar for your vintage classic synths.

I find that I get bored of a genre. Making the same thing over and over again isn't what I call inspiring.

That's why I love modular synthesis. It's not held back by making XYZ song. Instead, I focus on making whatever sound that comes to mind. Sometimes I'll sit down and just play with synthesis for hours, and not compose a single note.

When it comes to music though, yeah. Synthesis has it's good days and bad days with me. Gotta have variety.
