Hello,
I'm going to purchase a copy of Ableton Live, but not sure what is the best way to purchase it, a new full copy, educational version, or a used copy.
I'm eligible for the education discount, but not sure if there any caveat in the future with it.
Also, there are many people selling their copies on the second hand market, but how I can be sure the seller is not a scammer. Even if the seller transfers the license to my account, he maybe using a stolen credit card and the purchase will be cancelled after few months of usage.
Any thoughts or recommendations on this?
Thanks

Buy "edu." version.
But I doubt Ableton Live is a big upgrade over FL in terms of workflow.
Looking at your post history, it looks that you already have Bitwig, which is a better DAW than Live. (The only potential problem I can see is, if you need the amount of content that ships with Live Suite version.)
And, if you are super flexible and organized workflow - none of these (FL, Live, Bitwig) has the organisational capabilities of more traditional daws - (check Reaper, if you already have vst synths or S1, maybe?)
So, a) you are trolling; b) you need no DAW c) you need traditional DAW.

Have you tried to finish a project in FL once? I don't need any special capabilities, but in FL even basic things don't work correctly. I mean basic like undo, duplicate, grouping etc.anomandaris1 wrote: Thu Feb 13, 2020 9:31 am Buy "edu." version.

I don't have a Bitwig license, only a demo.
A traditional DAW doesn't have CV tools for external hardware, doesn't have modulators, doesn't have an isolated view on a track level (like in Ableton/Bitwig). I have Studio One Artist(got it for free with my audio interface), it's good until I reach the sound design part.
I checked all DAWs on the market, and I think Ableton is the right one for me.

If you're indeed eligible, get the 2nd hand license which should be the cheapest.roman.i wrote: Thu Feb 13, 2020 8:46 amI'm going to purchase a copy of Ableton Live, but not sure what is the best way to purchase it, a new full copy, educational version, or a used copy.I'm eligible for the education discount, but not sure if there any caveat in the future with it.Also, there are many people selling their copies on the second hand market, but how I can be sure the seller is not a scammer. Use Paypal for payment, check seller's post history here & on other platforms - facebook, soundcloud, etc. to see if it's a serious person. Ask for a screenshot of their user account with blurred serial but some other detail that will allow you to confirm it's the seller.

I can't see anything better in Live (unless you are advanced Max user.)
Bitwig just flat out improves on the Ableton concept and is not bugged/unstable/unreliable/laggy in big projects unlike Live. Did they even introduced polyphonic aftertouch?
(Honestly, Max's super midi functionality is crippled in Live.)

I won’t engage in pointless, meaningless discussion.anomandaris1 wrote: Thu Feb 13, 2020 1:35 pm???Kongru wrote: Thu Feb 13, 2020 10:20 amDebatableanomandaris1 wrote: Thu Feb 13, 2020 9:31 am it looks that you already have Bitwig, which is a better DAW than Live.![]()

+1 for buying a used Edu-Version from a kvr member with good feedback here.
If you want to resell it, you need a buyer who is allowed to get the Edu Version though..

I don't think he is talking nonsense let alone meaningless or pointless. You don't need to be emotional and judgemental so soon.Kongru wrote: Thu Feb 13, 2020 2:05 pmI won’t engage in pointless, meaningless discussion.anomandaris1 wrote: Thu Feb 13, 2020 1:35 pm???Kongru wrote: Thu Feb 13, 2020 10:20 amDebatableanomandaris1 wrote: Thu Feb 13, 2020 9:31 am it looks that you already have Bitwig, which is a better DAW than Live.![]()

Some people take it personal...
Still, any DAW can be used for creating music, so Live/Reaper/FL/whatever is perfectly fine, unless you need specific functionality working in a specific way (for example MPE - none of these is good for it, imo (FL 20 doesn't even support it at all).
