my wife may have made the mistake of telling me she paid off all our credit cards by shifting the debt to the equity line of credit (lower interest rate)

here's my query
i bought dr-008 at that $49 online price, but haven't really done much more than explore the kits. there's some pretty good kits -- more so from the fxpansion site than came on the CD.

but those NI synthetic drum mp3 files sound even better. but that may be that somebody has just put some beats together with some nifty fx.
but I want them and floridamusic has them on sale for $80. it seems at first listen that they're far and away better than what I have with dr-008

but I'd like for someone who's familiar with both sets to confirm that I'm not just being blown away by some well-produced demo mp3s. that if I buy it and load up the kits I'll be glad i bought it and it's a step up from the dr-008 kits.

I don't use DR008, but do have Synthetic Drums (for use in Kontakt). I think they are really good. It's my primary library for tracks "all things electronic." There are plenty of cool kits...plus enough of "useful" interesting noises. If you're into that type of music, you can't go wrong.

I have both. The Synthetic Kits are worth every penny IMHO. *BUT*, you're better off using them with Battery, as DR-008 just imports the sounds, not the envelopes and other programmed features which make them sound so nifty.

so Devon,
do you think it's worth it to update to the new version of Battery?

given that
these synthetic kits also operate within Kontakt and I have that as a result of the Komplete 2 package

With the synthetic drums purchase... They have midi files for the kit demos. So, you can see how they made the beats, with no additional FX added. Pretty neat.

I'll let you know on Battery 2, but I'm pretty sure it'll be worth it. Hopefully have it once it comes out. I know I still use Battery to this day, even with my severe love for DR-008.

I think the Synthetic kits will load perfectly into Kontakt. It only makes sense, but I don't have Kontakt to confirm.

from the readme :
Each of the kits contains a BATTERY kit (.kit) and two KONTAKT instruments (.nki). While one of the KONTAKT instruments is always identical to the BATTERY kit, the other one (kitname [FX].nki) takes advantage of additional KONTAKT features and effects.
you can also import them into dr-008 but you will have no fx

With that being the case, then I'd for SURE say it's worth it! Wish I had Kontakt. :?

This is from a post I was sent by NI when I asked a few questions when Battery2 was first announced:
Quote:
Battery 1 kits can be loaded into Battery 2.
The included library does not contain any of the soundline products.
Komplete users are qualified for upgrading.
Krypt is a drum machine form the Electronic Instruments Vol. 2.

best regards

Jan Klemm

But when they released more mp3 samples of battery2, I found similarities to the synthetic kits. I posted this with no reply:

Allright, ya see my post above. I asked them specifically about including the soundline samples in this 3.5G conglomeration they are making, (e.g. synthetic drums say the dusty circut kit). I just got back from the NI site wherein it appears that they included several new mp3 samples (24 up from 10) to promote battery2. Take a look....a "dusty Circut" mp3 that sounds very similair to the soundline product......

Can someone verify this? Did I just waste my money on synthetic drums?
My advic would be to wait for Battery 2 Upgreade in Nov ($100) and play with the 3.5 Gig samples, should be more than enough without tapping the home equity line (thats for big things like OHMforce).
