Elephant in the Kitchen Dub
sounds from:
Pouring water from a bottle plus bottle hit on the table,
Oven door,
Refrigerator door,
Kitchen drawer,
Rain,
Elephant voice.
Only reverb and delay effects used, very few processing on samples, a little more on elephant voice, what I tried to do is to build the groove of the song on the natural feeling of the samples,
the result is a minimal ambient Dub track which I quite like, I hope you do too.
I have also a 3 minutes version here, listen after voting on the short one.

Shit, this was hard.
Anyway, various recordings of me hitting pipes, ducts and canned air plus my electric screwdriver whirling all recorded and manipped in Soundforge, imported into RMIV and tuned by ear then played and arranged in Traction with Reaktor Session, classic EQ, MDA EQ and classic limiter, then finished off in Soundforge.

My entry has sort of a "Home Security" theme, you could say.
I have to admit, I wasn't very excited about this month's theme. I don't have much interest in this type of sound manipulation and have never really tried it so I'm sure I suck at it.
Anyway I just returned from 2 weeks plus of out of town gigging. I always take my laptop with me to record ideas (and obviously a microphone to sing into) On this trip, I managed to get in a little hunting as well, so I thought I'd record a good shotgun blast while I was at it.
So here is what I used. A sample of a shot from my Remington 870 SPS for all drum sounds. Different parts of the sample were used for each "drum" and the "Hi Hat" (or is it a ride?)
The raw sample also appears at the end of the song. The cymbal sound is the result of adding LOTS of reverb.
The other sample is the tone you hear when you arm our home security system (Brinks) I basically pitch shifted it and mapped it out in Halion. Some notes definitely sound better than others, so I really changed it radically by pumping the lines through Amplitube (finally found a use for this big waste of money) to try to emulate a guitar. The "bass" is the same sample shifted down and fed into Reaktor. I used an SM-58 to record both sounds.
So the bottom line is, I tried to make non-musical things sound as musical as possible. The sound quality on this bugs me a little, and it is definitely a rush-job since I'm heading back out to Palm Springs Friday morning, but here it is....
The Armed-peggio Song (#1 with some buckshot)
Cheers!

Empress Schwa Demands Tribute from the Universe

Most prominent sources...
Schwa the Cat: Lead and snare, wavesequence steps
Cat litter bin: Kick
Drinking Straw and big pot: Bass layers
Lysol spray, crinkly plastic bags: Hats and cymbals (white noise loops)
Pots and pans and lids: Percussive transients, wavesequence steps
Rolling crystal ball: "Ride" overtone
I trimmed out many single cycles, sometimes resynthed them, and mostly combined them in Reason NN-XT in the style of a layered wavetable synth. The wavesequence was done in Wusikstation. Everything mixed in SONAR.

Some time ago I took a borrowed memorecorder to record a variety of sounds from my work (and I work as a cranedriver in a concrete factory). At home I recorded that through a mic into the computer. I cut the audio in cubase over 4 tracks; and used QuadFrohmage, Mobilohm and endless tone for FX

Did not have too much time to keep up this month, let alone to make some music; so pfew I made it

Slosh
This was a great learning experience. I had never seriously used a sampler before. I had no mic, so I used the crappy mic on my camcorder. This was problematic because of all the camcorder noise I had to filter out.

gurgle: several samples of water dumped into pot, pitch shifted down.
drums: water-filled pot hit and tilted; crock-pot lid dropped into water-filled pot; lid dropped onto spoons; empty milk jug (not pictured) hit with spoons.
bass: wine glass hit with knuckle, pitch shifted down and layered.
crystal piano: wine glass hit with knuckle and spoon, sometimes tilted. Multi-sampled and layered.
chiff sound: regular glass hit with spoon, multi-sampled with slower attack to get the harsh bowing sound.
high lead: wine glass looped and layered in three octaves plus a third...made a lame organ sound, but effects saved me.
organ-like chords: same as high lead, mostly. Used Quad Frohmage to play the melody line on a comb filter.
All samples manipulated with Kontakt and tracked/mixed in Cubase SX2. Smallest loop size was 3000 samples. Everything was squashed and mangled with Quad Frohmage, Mobilohm, and Blockfish. (The Ohm Force group buy was good to me...) Selected tracks sent through two instances of Spektral Delay and one of Cubase Reverb B. Whole thing was compressed with Cubase Multiband Compressor.

here's my entry:
Lost In Art
i didn't have the time i'd hoped, so this is a 'work in progress'. if it doesn't get disqualified it will make other submissions shine brighter than they already do.
saw, vice and wood from a discount store. i used a budget condenser made by Seide through a budget tube preamp by SM Pro Audio. this photo should explain...

the rest you can guess!

Well, it went like this, Officer. I was minding my own business when I saw this microphone sticking out the trash and it had a USB pre-amp attached to it, so I took it home and decided this meant I should enter the contest after all. And I had it in mind that I would sing a song and that would be my contribution.
Well, then some said we couldn't sing, so I decided that I would try anyway because my singing is so awful that it really doesn't qualify as musical. So all the sounds you hear are natural from my voice, and then I added some nice effects using Pristine Space convolution reverb and Spirit Canyon impulses.
And besides, I felt guilty last month, so my song is an impassioned plea for a certain KVR member to come back to these entertaining contests.
I do sincerely apologise for the pain my voice will now inflict upon you. Despair not, it only gets worse!
Please Come Back
Deja Vu times two!
PS: I really did find a mike and pre-amp in the trash. Fairly good quality, too. And I promise not to sing again.

First post on these forums.. best just start off with a track then i spose
its a bit low-quality..mainly because of the samples used.. but hey, its my first time making a track consisting only of non-musical elements :]
Go Lop
sounds used are
-a starting car (bit distorted etc)
-ticking against a glass (pitched)
-a sliced sample of someone speaking (not singing!)
-a sliced sample of someone scrunching a piece of paper
( btw; used some harmonic resonants here and there.. :/ )

This song is actually my second attempt at an enty for this month's contest. When the contest started, I came up with this big idea and spent several weeks working hard at it. The problem was, it just wasn't working. So I abandoned what I had done and on Tuesday started over. So, here it is:
Rain Dance
The song uses a mix of samples I recorded and various sounds of wind and rain that I found on the net. The sounds I recorded include:
Hope you like it.

Glass hit with a spoon - Most melody instruments
Large pot hit with a spoon - Bass line
bits of sliced up words - percussion effects

This is my first post in Music Cafe and my first contest entry - so hello to everyone.
starmelt - A3 Passau Suben
I went for a real noisy approach to the topic.
The samples I used where one of cars and trucks passing by and one of a car horn.
What I did to the traffic sample was cutting it into pieces and changing the pitch of these pieces, but not much beside that.
The samples used were quite lo-fi - and so is the result
I used energyXT (1.2.8 beta with sampler) as a host and as a VST.
Plugins used: slim slow slider 4pole LPF, Kjaerhus Classic Master Limiter, Senderella
-- starmelt

Phew, that was close! I mean the deadline - but I made it
Microwave Blues
Samples from, in order of appearance (no time for photos, sorry):
Bongos - my computer table (played as if it was a bongo drum
) - samples layered in octaves
Hihats (tambourine?) - a finger click pitched way up and distorted
Hammond solo - my microwave, heating me a glass of milk - looped and played through PVExag and PS-1
Hammond organ chords - same microwave sample with different EQ settings, mda Stereo and no PS-1
Bass - a piece of rubber stretched between handles of two drawers in my kitchen
Kick - one of the samples used for bongos, pitched down and filtered
Snare - Same finger click sample as for hihats, through pvExag, RoomReverb and TriDirt
Arranged and produced in Renoise, a bit of sample editing done in SoundForge. All samples played using Renoise's built-in sampler.
All samples recorded using the shittiest recording device you could imagine - a Trekstor pendrive-mp3 player with recorder function
, which records at 8kHz with -20dB noisefloor...
I know, I know, I should've bought a mic long time ago... but the results are surprisingly good
Enjoy!
