Does anyone have Digital Sound Factory's E-MU Proteus Rack? If so, how is it?

I'm not looking for realism, I'm looking for ROMpler tones for VGM production.
Apparently someone told me not to get it because multiple people told them it sounded terrible and had problems and wasn't worth the price.
Just wondering about others' experiences, if they have it.

I want the same information. Interested in the E-MU NI Proteus Rack version, the Kontakt version. Is it well done like the Korg Wavestation/M1?

I think that thats just a sample player.
The actual EMU Proteus vx is now Freeware https://www.kvraudio.com/product/proteus-vx-by-e-mu which will give the actual sounds themselves.

According to a review from 2020 at the link you provided:tactile_coast wrote: ↑Mon Mar 14, 2022 4:57 pm I think that thats just a sample player.

"Not available from Creative any more. Creative have eliminated everything Ensoniq and E-Mu from their site except for a couple of pair of their earphones branded E-Mu. I have placed the Proteus VX and the Emulator X3 in Archive.org as abandonware".
I seem to remember it was hard to get up and running under modern operating systems and of course it's 32 bit only.

Seen it. Cannot judge the quality by this one. Contacted Digital Sound Factory and heard there are no long demo's. They do however have a refund policyExamigan wrote: ↑Mon Mar 14, 2022 4:57 pm I was curious about how it sounded and found this video:

i have it - i like using it but i'm using it squarely as a preset machine. for me, it feels quite playable but i think it's one of those libraries that favours live playing rather than programming.
it is just a sample library of the proteus series and sounds like one but it's not like owning an actual proteus as the programmability is inevitably nothing like the hardware and it's less extensive than, say, the uvi vintage vault stuff. if you want full rompler experience, you're going to be better off with the korg offerings (m1 or triton) or the roland jv/xv. unless you desperately need certain e-mu sounds or the filters (for which you either need the hardware or find some way of getting the vx software now and can run it on a PC), the sounds of those are going to be in the right ballpark.
