Basically, I know that there's some arp and step sequencing magic going on but the fundamental percussive nature of that bass sound is what I'm trying to achieve.

Any ideas?

OK so this preset is for Synth1 (NOT Sylenth)
Without any post processing it's pretty close. But once you see how it's done you can do it in pretty much any synth.

Some tweaking and post processing will get you really close.
