Good luck with the house selling.
I've tested the new version on two 98 machines and all seems OK now. You'll need version 1.2 from the site. I've removed the looping feature until I can get it working for 98. I'm dead keen on sorting the drag and drop idea as well.

Thanks for you input.

cool, tip!

edit the title of this thread to read

Free Loop Previewing Software

free software wont grab people attention. imo.

Loop horse is indeed a cool piece of software :)

Needs to address a few things though:

- resizeable window

- arranging the buttons in the top right corner to standard order (a small niggle but still)

A minor issue with it, sometimes both clicking the files and moving through them with cursor keys won't play the sound. Happens a lot less with keys.

Also, there's something odd about the properties detection. Occasionally it just shows something that isn't accurate, most of the time it's the frequency (I'm seeing 22kHz when the sample is in standard 44.1kHz format). This happens rarely though, browsed through a 1.5gb collection of recently downloaded breakbeats and noticed that on a couple of breaks.

Still, great piece of software. It already puts the good old WaveBrowser into retirement. All it needs is a bit of refinement :)

JMH

PS Dunno if system specs are necessary, tell me if you need details and I'll provide 'em.

I keep launching your website wich is nice

Topaz Exactly what I mean :)

Having big colorful icons really doesn't do that much help when it's about basic Windows way of doing things.

(I wouldn't mind seeing it without 'full skinning' so that the basic windows controls etc were like in about all the other apps on my machine, but that's a different thing...)

Hi There

All the above are good points which I will address. (And I'll sort those buttons! )

I feel like the interface needs some re-designing. When I started the design, it wasn't intended for anyone else to use and I intentionally set out to make something 'very un-windows'!!! :) (needs more thought! Maybe I'll come up with a few dummy interfaces.)

The info thing is bizarre. I use Windows MCI to query bit rate etc.I'm not convinced that MCI is that great at reading header information. I'm gonna look into other ways of grabbing that info.

Re-sizing windows is something that I really want to do but am a bit limited by the authoring software I use, however...never say never :)

Cheers for your feedback, I really appreciate it.

OK, here's 2 suggestions for the loop playing thing (haven't tried the version with it implemented yet, so I don't know whether suggestion #1 has been there or not):

#1:
It would be cool if it played loops without gaps. Seems to be quite some hard task for almost all media players except MPlayer2 (which actually is MPlayer 6.x under 98SE, guess it was just named "2" when the first one from Win 3.x/95 was abandoned).
Media Player 7 and up don't loop properly, neither does Winamp.
Mplayer2/6 however even loops single waveform cycles just fine so you can detect their pitches in loop play - VERY nice to preview samples when doing sampler patches. Which will take me to:

#2:
It would be TOTALLY RULE MY WORLD if it could be set to playback embedded looppoints!
I got a whole shitload of samples that I can't tell whether they include proper looppoints or not, so I need to drag them into WaveLab all the freaking time to see what's going on with any embedded info.
Might even be great for samples that I did by my own, just to sort them out any better - you know, especially for real instruments I never loop the complete sample but prefer to keep the attack all natural and set my looppoints during the decay/hold phase.

And uhm... even if I wanted to just post two suggestions, talking about embedded file info, here's #3:
As I'm using the EXS to build my basic sample maps and as it supports automatic readout of embedded root key information from wav/aiff files, I'd really love to have easier access to this. It's a PAIN altering this in Wavelab, especially as soon as you need to sort out rather complexed maps.
Would just be great to have some "set root key and apply to file" function or so.

With these suggestions included it might become THE kickass application for all the sample heads.

But then, at least #2 and #3 might be hard to implement - plus it might be what the program isn't exactly made for... I can dream though, can I?

Sascha Way cool suggestions. All I could add is is making the loop thing optional, auditioning the aforementioned breaks was a pain in the ass in software that can read the looping information as most of these breaks had the stupidest loop settings applied to them (just start and end loop markers in the beginning and end of the file)... I wonder why they even bothered.

JZ Don't sweat with the info thing, seems it only happens rarely. It's actually nice to see it work as well as it does now, with these breaks it was nice to see some of them were actually MP3s (stupid people making crappy loops and then wrapping them in a container format, most likely so people wouldn't flame them - at least until after finding out...). Of course WaveLab for example gives the same information but won't preview such files... one reason why I instantly took a liking to your app :)

Of course! All options should be made optional, such as "play looped" and "play embedded loops", eventually as a loop sub-menu.

Hi there
Thanks for your replies.
At the mo I'm working on

-the ability to loop a file from the main window (that works on both 98 and xp!!! )

-redesigning the interface. It has more of a 'windows system' feel and will use desktop colour schemes and........hopefully......be able to resize the app to full screen and generally resize.

-drag and drop to 'potential' list.

The embedded loop point thing has got me stumped at the mo. I wonder if there are any ActiveX objects out there that will read this kind of info?

Cheers

Maybe you should ask some of the fellow developers hanging in the DSP and plugin programming forums...

You may ..or may not…..find this useful if you need to manage wav/mp3 files.

I created a bit of software a while back to make auditioning and bulk copying samples from CD’s and other sources easier. I find it useful for music magazine cover-mounts when I want to copy files from various folders to one folder, or separate the ‘wheat from the chaff’ in existing sample folders. To cut along story short…

I’ve made it available as freeware, pc only though. If you find it useful, let me know…

Hi There, Loop Horse Version 2 is ready now. Version 2 contains a couple of bug fixes but mainly new features added, as suggested by users of the KVR forum:

-Get File properties in browser.
-New resizable interface that uses system colours.
-Interface is more standardised.
-'Drag & Drop' to build a list.
-Also add files by hitting SPACEBAR or from right-click menu.
-Batch delete files after copying (permanent ).
-Send files to Recycle Bin from browser.
-Perfect looping from main window for previewing loops (XP & 98!!).

Let me know how you get on with it! :?
