Right now, i own Studio one 4 and i think its semi clumsy in that regard.
I would love to setup a device once with audio/midi in place, with latency compensation audio + MIDI clock.
And with the ability to control it via MIDI CC/NRPN panel.
Which DAW do you think has the most elegant implementation for external midi synth/efx ?

I'd say Bitwig. Works like a charm with hardware.
Other one I like is Reason, but I might be alone with that opinion

Agree with Bitwig. It’s so easy. Just create a track and add a HW instrument. Set in and out ports and you’re done. No extra audio track required for bouncing.
I also agree that S1 is a clumsy in that regard, having to create two tracks, one for midi and one for audio. Once setup though it’s easy enough to hide the audio track until time for bouncing.
As for FX I find them equally simple. Just setup the ports and direct.

Bitwig together with the device panels I created for my most used plugins

I spoke about hardware, not plugins
