In a world where all audio was transferred over Ethernet at blazing fast speeds...
While connected to powerful DSP servers for even faster processing at nearly 0 latency...
And hardware manufacturers are developing and releasing DAWs...
Will DAW manufacturers start releasing Ethernet driven connectivity and networking to their communities? Proprietary or Universal? Apple style or PC?
Or an open source protocol that also provides free and open sourced server code that you can run yourself for added DSP power?
Thoughts?

Keeping an eye on PreSonus and Studio One + their StudioLive gear + a future version of the Quantum with AVB...
Their press release from a few days ago:
PreSonus has released its Ecosystem 3.0 update for StudioLive Series III ecosystem products. Here's the story in their own words...
An early adopter of AVB, PreSonus continues to be on the cutting edge of advancing reliable, consistent network performance while moving closer to full interoperability with other leaders in AVB development.
The newest update builds on many of the advantages that make AVB the most robust audio network option for pro audio. Among the many improvements, this update strengthens PreSonus Ecosystem device connection and stream routing to create the most configurable audio networking environment in its class. PreSonus AVB Ecosystem networks can be configured in complex star and ring configurations that include dozens of StudioLive mixers, NSB stage boxes, SW5E switches, and EarMix 16M personal monitor mixers. With the newly added AVB Auto-connect, any PreSonus AVB Ecosystem device will reconnect its stream routing after being power cycled or temporarily disconnected from the network making it extremely reliable in complex installations or touring rigs.
As PreSonus looks to the future of AVB, its engineering team continues to work closely with other members of the Avnu Alliance to further the advancement of AVB implementation and interoperability. The Ecosystem 3.0 release strengthens PreSonus’ commitment to providing fast, reliable audio networking for the StudioLive Series III AVB Ecosystem of products.
In addition to an update to Universal Control to support the Ecosystem 3.0 release, the following products require firmware updates for full compatibility and improved network performance: StudioLive Series III mixers (64S, 32S, 32SX, 32SC, 32, 24, 16, 32R, 24R, and 16R), NSB stage boxes (NSB 16.8, NSB 8., EarMix 16M personal monitor mixer, and SW5E AVB switch.
It is highly recommended that all StudioLive Series III Ecosystem customers take advantage of this free update.

Steinberg's VST4, an open source (AoE & DSP Server) universal protocol for 3rd party developers?
Seems much easier then trying to get 3rd party developers to adopt each and every protocol.
To be continued...

AVB is a non-proprietary standard from IEEE, so points to PreSonus for going with this protocol.
And the "AoE" part of this thread is the more certain pathway of future systems..
BUT... "DSP server" is not quite so much on the path as I see it.
Native processing on a powerful host computer will just keep getting better and better, making external DSP less and less attractive.

The two protocols in place today are AVB and Dante. Advantage of AVB: a real standard, and buit-in support for OSX but needs special expensive switches. Advantage of Dante: a proprietary industry standard used by millions of professionals, works with standard switches...

SoundGrid? And plenty more... please research, before making outlandish claims.Tj Shredder wrote: ↑Sun Mar 01, 2020 1:41 pm The two protocols in place today are AVB and Dante. Yes, there is some more options mentioned there. Worth furthur digging.
Incomplete claims, and perhaps a questionable question, but begs the meaning of “outlandish.”
