I also came from trackers and ended up with Orion and Tracktion. However, I also just registered Renoise.
Renoise is a VERY capable tracker that has support for both VST instruments and effect, automation envelopes, multiple notes rows per track (so you need only one track for those fancy chord progressions), native DSP effects, an easy to use sample editor and instrument envelopes.
I absolutely dig this thing. It took me a couple of days to get my head around the tracker workflow again, but my god how I have missed it! No more messing around with effect columns more either. Just do everything with automation.
You're not going to be able to synch this thing to video though, but I reccomend you give the demo a go. It's fully functional but you can't render to wav and there is no ASIO support in the demo (the full version supports ASIO, and you can even hook up a midi keyboard if you want).
