Music had a one night stand with sound design.....And the condom broke

Post

Is this really a question?
It's just a way to earn money. Always was...

Disk Jockeys play records. They never shoiuld have been musicians / recording artists.

The concept of residencies has been around for a hundred years or more, so this is nothing new.

yes...as quoted in the article,...these DJ contracts can pay more money than a traditional advance on a traditional record deal...that some of these guys getting contracts don't have record deals....and that there is basically an A&R function to find the next guy,... and there are bidding wars for these contracts like there used to be for record deals
Not to mention 250K for 2-4 hrs with guaranteed dates for a year is something a lil more than just another way to earn side money imo

based on the use of those semantics in the article, the resident DJ is the local filler and is on salary and isn't a producer creating his own content....these contracts mimicking record deals are for an entire entertainment conglomerate and reserved for DJs who also produce and/or consider themselves recording artists.

No but it has helped me to put food on my family's table, a place for us to call home and a car to drive in.... on the other hand being a musician has not helped me bring in a cent yet but my skills as a Music Therapist has kept my musical hobby alive at least! !

What a bitter and hateful comment.
Most famous DJs are great producers with classic tracks in their genre which is why they get these residencies. And that coming from a Dutch poster.
