OH! I finally got the name Pigments! It's not only referring to that it is so colourful, but also to its relationship with Iris (as both being part of the eye)! I remember when Pigments (1) came out and people were complaining widely about the name. Now it makes more sense.
For 8.88$ should is buy iris 2 in 2020

As I recently bought both Pigments 2 and Padshop Pro (which both feature granular and spectral synthesis, I think), I wonder if Iris 2 is worth considering. I have demoed it, but find it not as attractive as the two other synths (might simply be the graphics). So it's not about the money, but about how useful it might become when I have learned it.

There are so many ways to reframe this so that it becomes a no-brainer.
At it’s most basic, you’d only need to find a handful of very useable presets to justify the current price-of-entry. Then, if you’re still struggling, add in the quality of the included sample library. And if you are in any doubt as to the potential that the instrument offers, perhaps check out Simon Stockhausen and Soundethers’ work

No, I didn't miss any point. There is literally no complexity to this thing at all, spectral engine or not. It's extremely simple, exactly as I said it. Of course this may depend on your experience with synthesis but from my perspective it was very shocking just how simplistic it is. My first reaction when testing Iris 2 was "Wtf??? That's it??"zerocrossing wrote: Sat Feb 29, 2020 3:37 pmExtremely simple? I think you miss the point. The complexity is in the spectral engine and how you can edit it.bmanic wrote: Thu Feb 27, 2020 5:55 am It's an extremely simple "synth" but comes with a nice library of samples. Those samples alone are worth the price in my opinion.
.. but I wouldn't buy for more than a few bucks tho. Full price is ridiculous in this day and age.

Hi
I received Iris V2 for free from PB a while back - but I do believe it is (very) good value for the $8.88 - IF (like anything) you need it.
There are a ton of presets (content) available once you install/validate it via the Izotope product portal (another blooming C/P app...).
My only gripe(s) is how slow it is to load presets - this might be partly to do with my slow Internet PC - but it would be nice to get quick load ups if only to audition sounds - the preset browser is pretty small as well...
As far as the product being supported - I have seen recent o/s updates for various older Izotope products.

Does anyone know if Iris 2 overwrites Iris 1?

Iris 2 owner here. I don't use it, and I will probable never use it, but for the short time I used it, I found that generating "Silent Hill" atmospheres was easy as pie.
I have no idea about other uses, I didn't dig into it that much.
For less than ten bucks, an instant Silent Hill machine, I'd say GO.

Having watched the Silent Hill movie, I don't think I'd want a Silent Hill machine in my bedroom.nachenko wrote: Mon Mar 02, 2020 7:19 am For less than ten bucks, an instant Silent Hill machine, I'd say GO.
