Updates (ie within a major version) always worked whether you had WUP or not.

People think WUP is the only way to maintain your plugin versions. You have to remember that this is an old system that Waves has used for probably a decade or more. It's to help facilitate the upgrading process for large studios and professional engineers, etc.whyterabbyt wrote: Mon Mar 02, 2020 3:50 pm Updates (ie within a major version) always worked whether you had WUP or not.
The big problem is people don't know there is also an upgrade path, that saves them money, updates to the recent version and it throws in some free plugins from a bundle.
I would find better things to complain about, like plugins charging more then $29 in 2020. Or rental subscription plugins, where the value of individual plugins never goes down year to year.
It's not the quality of audio, it's the quality of production that matters.

I've recently gotten 2 emails telling me I have only a limited time to get WUPed. What is that about? I really want a clear picture of what this is about and why so many people hate them (besides the subscription model, which I also will not participate in).

I get them too, but ignore them. As far as I know these are just marketing bullshit trying get get me to sign up for their subscription model.Bombadil wrote: Mon Mar 02, 2020 4:11 pm I've recently gotten 2 emails telling me I have only a limited time to get WUPed. Does anyone know how often Waves updates their "sales" prices? Is that weekly on Mondays like I believe?
I participated in the recent sale (buy 2, get 1 free) ... and at the time of the sale there was a third one that I wanted as my +1 available at the price of my other purchases (i.e. $29.99). They didn't dole out the free code for purchases made through resellers until today. Today, the one that I had my eyes on has been repriced.
If I had purchased through Waves over the weekend, I would have been able to immediately claim the +1 that I wanted. Now I have to wait until the next repricing and cross my fingers. Seems like their typical shenanigans.
The voucher is good until March 25, so wondering how many repricing cycles will pass until I must use it or lose it?

Well it kind of does end after 1 or 2 years. Every time another dev releases a new version, most of them stop supporting the old version. Yep the support just ended. Additionally, you can still keep downloading updates for your plugins even after your WUP has expired. You're not limited to a year there.Bombadil wrote: Mon Mar 02, 2020 3:38 pm I'm still not comprehending.
I buy stuff from other companies, and their product support doesn't end after 1 year. I've seen too many people very upset with Waves' business model. Now, I am on a mac with Mojave. If their plugins won't work when I am forced to move to Catalina or the next one, and I have to pay again for what I've already bought, then I'm out.
Please correct me if I'm wrong on that. Other companies update their products as a matter of course for free when Apple does their yearly new OS thing. Does Waves do the same?
However, every time there is a major, such as V11, then you do need to pay for the upgrade. It costs alot of money to go through all those plugins and make sure they are all functional for the next OS. Their employees need to eat, so they need to be paid. Fortunately, such moments don't happen all that often.

sidechaining is only so relevant in this day's DAW. Having mono and stereo as well as Mid and side is the first step IMHO of adding studio like functionality.
They will often rely on the DAW, but why not put the owness on their product to match what a studio can provide. It's not enough to have a mono version, and then a stereo version; especially in the case of an emulation of pinewood studios, or EMI studios that frankly runs both, but relies on mono more heavily on their racks, layouts, schemes.
I guess I find it almost whimsical that they can make us believe that their recreations are anything like the real thing with stereo instead of both mono and stereo. It might cost more on the CPU, but that's a real re-creation, not some creative and truncated approximation.
I got tired of imagining what a studio could really be like.

I always find it more important for the musician, engineer or producer to be experienced, talented and great at what they do. Rather then the situation, gear or room doing the work.kingozrecords wrote: Wed Mar 04, 2020 2:33 pm sidechaining is only so relevant in this day's DAW. Absolutely. Great art doesn't always necessitate the need for great gear, it can happen regardless. Great gear can just simply the process for us, speed it up and give us more options, but isn't fundamentally necessary.burnt circuit wrote: Wed Mar 04, 2020 3:31 pmI always find it more important for the musician, engineer or producer to be experienced, talented and great at what they do. I just read a post were someone got a few dollars off a Waves product using a code, final price $60. $29 would surely come around, I fell into this situation several times.
Currently considering Q-Clone demo.

Windows updated and now my Waves V9s don't work. Waves Central says the licenses are "unrecoverable"...
All I need is a proper alternative to Waves Lo-Air and I can avoid Waves forever.
Keep your "well I don't have any problems with my licenses" comments to yourselves, please
