Lastly, while it's true that Macs are more expensive than PCs, a dual G5 is in roughly the same ballpark as a workstation class PC and is *plenty* of horsepower for making music.
that is crap. See what the benchmarks say mate.
Which benchmarks are you referring to? The G5 and dual xeon or amd machines tend to edge each other out in different categories. Overall I think PCs are still faster but not by a whole lot. The point is that a dual G5 is plenty fast for making any music you want.

:D

I can't compare Logic with anything else as I have only used logic 4.8 and now MS2005dl which is a logic clone.
I must admit though I found it very easy to understand and was doing stuff within an hour. Having said that I have probably used only 50% of its features.

As an amateur I can't understand the concept of "workflow" as it don't make much diference to me. A few extra hours to do something but so what.
Having a pro sequencer does not make the music any better nor does having the extra "bells an whistles" that other sequencers have. The same goes for the mac/pc debate, as the saying goes "its not what you got but how you uses it that counts." Now people want everything to have "freeze" etc included and the ability to wash socks and pants as well! :hihi:

btw. I can hack into ANY Windoze based machine, copy files, alter them or delete them! Its so easy you could as well.

Should also mention that I think in a few years time it will be Linux that will be talked about as the future of music! Look at what Receptor is doing and Linux based.

:D fake :D

Forget the soft instruments - under the old Emagic model they would have been paid for extras for those who wanted them. The core business is the DAW and big features like automation and a proper multilevel undo, support for VSTi's etc were added progressively over the run from 4.x - 5.1.
I'm actually pretty impressed with what they've managed to do in 6 -> 7. Apple loop support, the new channel strip presets, various workflow enhancements. The focus is clear - Apple's worked hard to make it easier and more efficient to use. Apple has done very good things with their other pro apps and I expect similar things from Logic 8.

The difference for me is that, as a deeply lazy person at heart, if it's going to take me hours of tedious manual work to get an idea out I'll probably just not bother. If the tools I'm using encourage me to experiment and take care of a lot of the boring details I'm much more likely to try new things out and come up with stuff I like. This is why I like Live 4 so much. In about a minute I can have a full skeleton of a track going, all in time and in sync. This means I can try out 10x as many ideas as I can in a more linear host in the same time. The result is better music.

If you don't have Logic 7, would you please stop speculating on it's features, development cycle, value etc. I have 7, and I'm busy learning why your going to be sorry you don't have a Mac... PC software: 75% crap, 25% quality... MMac software: 90% quality, 10% PC conversions...

Care to elaborate on what you learnt so far then :D apart from being ripped off! If you are having to learn then it can't be that obvious. Has it helped you get a deal, sell a track for instance or is it a case of "mine does this, does yours". :?:

Its funny but a track done on a mac sounds the same as a track done on a pc.:P
