NI have announced they will no longer activate discontinued products

Out of that list products come to mind which might be sad to loose. Spektral Delay and Pro-53. Alternatives would be MSpectral Delay and Repro or Arturias prophet emulations (both better than Pro-53...)
Any server dependent copy protection does carry that risk including dongle based ones... You should have known that before you bought it...
Arguing as „loyal customer“ if you did not update your Komplete 2 within the last 2 decades is not recommended. (Unless you want to look like a fool...)
To keep decades old software running requires either old machines or virtual machines anyway. The risk that old software does not run on recent OSes is higher than disappearing authorization options...
If you still run those ancient plug-ins keep your machines and all is good...
Look at it as if it where hardware. (Which can break as well btw...)
The decision to buy a software should be based on what it will give you in return. Collecting the money is probably more hassle than dealing with annoying cp. And yes I agree its annoying and cp schemes used by companies like u-he are always preferable. But this is not an option if you there is no alternative...
Btw. neither Spektral Delay nor Pro-53 are available in the marketplace. I didn‘t look for the others, as I guess nobody would buy them anyway, even before that announcement...

I am very glad I haven't bought anything from Native Instruments yet. I really want to get Kontakt and have been planning on buying it the next time it comes up on sale but I think at this point after reading about Native Instruments current business practices I'll be taking a hard pass on it. Why are so many good sample libraries dependent on Kontakt anyways? There has to be someone better and more honest making something.

I'm still using older libraries like Colossus and they are still working in Kontakt 5, so ...
What the f**k went wrong at NI?
I can only guess how they work at the Berlin headquarter ...

"Maybe we could focus on some user requests ... maybe an UI-Update for Absynth?

"No, lets discontinue some working products and focus on the future of sound ... THE FUTURE OF SOUND

"WOW ... I would never have thought of that ...

It refuses description, allowing only the vague approach of adjectives: dark, light, raw, angelic. Who or what is making these noises? Where are they coming from and what do they point to? What kind of entity can leave such a troubling sonic remnant?

Your local cornershop might miss you if you just stop shopping there after having done so for thirty years, but a comoany as large as NI won't. For them to take notice, the aggrieved need to actively let them know why they will no longer be shopping with their companydigitalboytn wrote: Tue Mar 10, 2020 2:05 pm The best way for them to get the message is to not give them any more of your money !

Would it be still possible to use East West Symphonic Orchestra (and other Kompakt or Intakt-based libraries) within a newer version of Kontakt? Or do they have to be activated before opening the samples in Kontakt? I hate the Play software but still love those sample libraries.

I doubt it ... they must be registrated via Native Access.szurcio wrote: Tue Mar 10, 2020 2:48 pm Would it be still possible to use East West Symphonic Orchestra (and other Kompakt or Intakt-based libraries) within a newer version of Kontakt? I assume they don't care about angry guys who did their last purchase with them 10 years ago...

Frankly many people are more interested in future promises than actual working products. Check game preorders (Cyberpunk 2077) or never fulfilled promised by politicans... It doesn't matter what is delivered, people already have given their money (or votes)."No, lets discontinue some working products and focus on the future of sound ... THE FUTURE OF SOUND

So, do some kontakt 5 libraries not work in kontakt 6?
