I don’t know...Camel pissed of a lot of people a few years ago, and Plugin alliance does it on a monthly basis.

There's a link in the OP ...

VPS Avenger- most pissed off users in a thread when they changed to Codemaster protection on an update and the licence expires every 90 days and you have to re-new it!

To be fair to NI, they also do a lot of good things https://www.native-instruments.com/en/p ... ete-start/

I definitely don't have faith in NI moving forward, and haven't for some time. This issue won't affect me now, but definitely doesn't help me feel good about them.
The only thing I feel like I couldn't leave behind at this point with NI is Maschine and Kontakt. I still think Maschine is the best Drum machine and best hardware/software combo there is. And I just have too many kontakt libraries and don't want to lose those. Everything else is replaceable. Maybe if another sampler becomes as popular as kontakt for third party libraries then I may ditch komplete.

I agree customers should take legal action. I also am interested in figuring out the big picture, just to know what NI is about..
Why did they take that harsh decision? What does it imply? What is its connection with the layoff that happened some months ago? What is their actual business strategy?

That's true they just look for customers not musicians. They want people with a heavy GAS
Yes, quite the opposite than other developers like Plugin Alliance, IK..., iZotope and so on...
Hmm ... but in the early 2000er when Kontakt slowly became popular and
prevailed against GIGA, Halion, V-Sampler and others NI was a very open and
likeable company. NI was just like Plugin Alliance, IK and iZotope today.

If a company gains a quasi-monopole on a market there is always the
tendency to abuse the market position. They don't need to listen to their
customers, because they know that their customers depend on them!

Ok, let's have a look at NIs EULA here:
https://www.native-instruments.com/en/c ... agreement/

Among other things, it says this:
3.2 Native Instruments grants Licensee the non-exclusive right without restrictions in time or place to use the Products. Native Instruments is not obliged to cede the software underlying source code, including the associated development documentation.
and this:
3.5 Licensee is not authorized to modify the software, unless it is to preserve or restore the agreed functions of the software purchased.
In other words, registered users of their software are legally allowed to used cracked versions of the products affected from june on.
I would say that when it comes to anything considering anti-piracy, this is an incredibly bad move from NIs side and users should rub that under their noses left and right.

So what happens when a legacy product on there obsolete list has been used to upgrade to a new product ?

I have a boxed full version of Kontakt 2 which I used to upgrade to Kontakt 5 and then Komplete 12.

Does this mean that after May 31st I will not be able to re-install my new Komplete 12 because it no longer has a qualifying product (Kontact 2) installed and activated ?

No. All this is strictly serial based and as long as the product you own works with Native Access to be registered, you'll be fine.
