Because they discontinue support for products taken from the market more than ten years ago? C'mon, drama, drama!

So you have no problem with a ten year old car deactivating itself ?Calenberger wrote: Tue Mar 10, 2020 4:22 pm Because they discontinue support for products taken from the market more than ten years ago? C'mon, drama, drama!

Oh c'mon, you should know by now that those kind of comparisons never work.dellboy wrote: Tue Mar 10, 2020 4:30 pmSo you have no problem with a ten year old car deactivating itself ?Calenberger wrote: Tue Mar 10, 2020 4:22 pm Because they discontinue support for products taken from the market more than ten years ago? Does your car stop working when the hardware isn't capable of running the software anymore? Do you have software installed on your car's onboard computer, which stops working when there's a firmware upgrade? No, so, you can't compare it.
Apart from that, it's not 10 year, but almost 20 year old software.

Looks like about half of what's affected here isnt software, its sample libraries. And a large proportion of that isnt even an NI product.chk071 wrote: Tue Mar 10, 2020 4:38 pm Apart from that, it's not 10 year, but almost 20 year old software.
An idiot on Set Theory:
"In some cases there is an object called red that contains everything that is red. In much the same way a pot is a plate."

What a shame. Was looking into some of their product but their activation stuff seems to rely on online connection and server responses anyways. Knowing alone I can't use these products anymore whenever NI decides to stop their servers (may it be in 20 years or next month, who knows) keeps me from buying in.

It’s your comparison that doesn’t work.chk071 wrote: Tue Mar 10, 2020 4:38 pmOh c'mon, you should know by now that those kind of comparisons never work.dellboy wrote: Tue Mar 10, 2020 4:30 pmSo you have no problem with a ten year old car deactivating itself ?Calenberger wrote: Tue Mar 10, 2020 4:22 pm Because they discontinue support for products taken from the market more than ten years ago? And your other post about warez is just as stupid. It’s not an option if you care about security.
There are two kinds of people in the world. And you're not one of them.

This is confusing... so something like komplete elements isn't on the list but service centre (which authorises it) is..? And my Reaktor is actually v3 (bought from that el-bo geezer funnily enough) with updates to v6 but that's managed by NA so should be ok...?

We are talking more about 15/20 years old software that compared to a car is like saying: do you expect a 70/90 years old car to run, comply with modern regulations about exausts, safety rules, safety belt and so on?dellboy wrote: Tue Mar 10, 2020 4:30 pmSo you have no problem with a ten year old car deactivating itself ?Calenberger wrote: Tue Mar 10, 2020 4:22 pm Because they discontinue support for products taken from the market more than ten years ago? Cmon...
You can always ask to NI what is the price for the source code and pay for a dev to update YOUR SOFTWARE(not your license to run it)

It's pretty easy actually, if you know how. But, hey, I wouldn't wholeheartedly recommend to use warez to someone as well. Just pointing out that it's an option, if nothing else works, just like cloning your system, when you already have installed and activaed the stuff.TheMaestro wrote: Tue Mar 10, 2020 4:43 pmIt’s your comparison that doesn’t work.chk071 wrote: Tue Mar 10, 2020 4:38 pmOh c'mon, you should know by now that those kind of comparisons never work.dellboy wrote: Tue Mar 10, 2020 4:30 pmSo you have no problem with a ten year old car deactivating itself ?Calenberger wrote: Tue Mar 10, 2020 4:22 pm Because they discontinue support for products taken from the market more than ten years ago? Doesn't appear to me that people are looking for solutions though. Rather negative, destructive bombardment.

Yes. It only becomes a problem when you sell the Reaktor 6 upgrade, and try to run Reaktor 3 again.GaryG wrote: Tue Mar 10, 2020 4:43 pm This is confusing... so something like komplete elements isn't on the list but service centre (which authorises it) is..? Even though I don't even see it in the list. Are you sure this applies to it?

I kind of understand discontinuing support on their own old, discontinued products. That's normal after 10+ years. I also kind of understand not supporting sample libraries that are no longer available to be bought - i.e. EWQLSO as a Kontakt version (though I really wish it was still available) But discontinuing support for something like Chris Hein that is still available for purchase (and not cheap either), I don't get.
I don't generally promote using non-licensed software, but maybe I may need a copy of non-licensed Kontakt to run next to my licensed version in a few years when my SSD drive dies. Just so I can run the Chris Hein Compact horns I recently bought. Of course, that only works if I don't need to have my library separately activated. I mean really, I don't do this stuff. I have no idea if it would actually work. Legal is less stressful for me. Wouldn't it be better to have the library not require activation?

That's the point. No problem with discontinuing support. But don't stop me from using it. Make it free at best if it doesn't matter anymore anyways.Mace404 wrote: Tue Mar 10, 2020 4:44 pm It's understandable they stop the support on those old plugins/libraries.
The problem is they stop you from using them by preventing activation.
