Bug-free Mac DAW?

Logic and Live run all my plugs well, as far as I can tell i.e with plugs I actually use.
But to answer your question then no, on neither Mac or PC is there a bug-free DAW.

Usually, a complex mac software like a DAW breaks because of Apple updates. Also no software is bugfree / perfect. But this is the real problem with the macos platform. A software under windows would never ever break. Ok, sometimes a OS vendor should cut the antiquated traditions, but Apple usually does not do this by logical improvement, instead they do to negatively force people to fit to their very fluctuating, recent standards. Usually, a non-cross-platform standard makes no sense anymore these days, but Apple simply ignores such simple logic.
In the end, macos versions are a lot of extra effort for cross-platform devs, and may get unusable, unstable or simply broken every new year, due Apple's nonsense OS update politics.
So if you care for a very stable DAW system, which still will run in 10 years, do not use macos.

Did it ever cross your mind that's a problem of Catalina?Michael L wrote: Tue Mar 10, 2020 12:39 pmQuite true, but unpredictable.
For example, I opened a simple, recently-updated and Catalina-compatible plugin (iZotope Vocal Doubler) in four hosts under OSX Mojave. It ran fine in one (VST), crashed two (VST and AU), and had a half-blank GUI in one (AU). Every plugin I own will run fine in at least one host, but no host will run them all. Thus I was wondering if there was "One DAW to Rule Them All" or if this erratic OSX compatibility is an endless game of Whack-a-Mole.

Fernando, he literally said he is running Mojave.fmr wrote: Tue Mar 10, 2020 1:10 pmDid it ever cross your mind that's a problem of Catalina?Michael L wrote: Tue Mar 10, 2020 12:39 pmQuite true, but unpredictable.

You have no clue, but this is typical KVR drivel so understandable.Hanz Meyzer wrote: Tue Mar 10, 2020 12:55 pm Usually, a complex mac software like a DAW breaks because of Apple updates. Why do you think I have no clue? I am using mac systems since 2006, and actually know quite a lot about the OS structure. What makes you an expert again?

Because if you expect your Windows system to be running modern software 10 years from now without issues, you are crazy. Furthermore, recent Windows updates have not exactly been great. Mac updates, so far, have not deleted your documents.Hanz Meyzer wrote: Tue Mar 10, 2020 5:07 pm Why do you think I have no clue? There is no doubt that Catalina is Apple's Vista moment. But note that Apple's Vista moment is named after a version of Windows.

macOS Catalina here, I still use Ableton Live 8 and it works really well. It's fast and stable, even faster than my trusty Cockos Reaper.

Ironically Logic is the least stable host for me (Mojave, MBP 2012).
Good thing Apple didn't invent the AU standard or I'd be really concerned.
Bitwig has completely frozen a couple times (even with sandboxing).
Ableton Live 10 crashes with some regularity.
Reason 10 is the most stable for me.

The only issue I've ever had with windows and DAW's was 32/64 While I'm mostly 64 bit these days I still have some vst gems in 32 bit format. Regardless jBridge cures all for me.drdriller wrote: Tue Mar 10, 2020 9:03 ami've never seen a windows update generally breaking plugins compatibility, i've you already read a official announcement from a plugins company for not updating to any windows version ?

This is the underlying problem, without question. I am just wondering if any DAW developers have found a way to manage this nonsense and create an unusually stable host.Hanz Meyzer wrote: Tue Mar 10, 2020 12:55 pmIn the end, macos versions are a lot of extra effort for cross-platform devs, and may get unusable, unstable or simply broken every new year, due to Apple's nonsense OS update politics.
