haven't had an ipad since the ipad1 was released. they quit supporting it many years ago. i was recently in a dept. store and saw they were selling up to date model 10-1/2 inches for a good price so i impulsed on it (it was really a birthday present as there wasn't anything i needed).

ipad instruments are as fresh and addictive as i remember them. i was surprised to learn i could just plug the thing into my DAW over usb now. i haven't turned my laptop instruments on in more then a week.

i have a request for the devs and edm kids tho. please don't ruin it. there are some very good instruments being made. so, don't overload them with presets. don't do in app pay to play schemes. don't start lowering the quality to make them do everything. you have a really good thing going here. leave it alone.

thanks in advance.

The synthesizer experience. Where players should be.

Got a dandy Moog Model 15 modular on my iPad. Performs great, sounds authentic. It's not going to replace my Macs or PCs but it can be connected to a desktop or laptop.

iPad software prices are low compared to full-powered computers too, which could bring in new musicians. But just as some Serious Musicians got upset at the influx of "kids making awful noise" when computers got powerful enough to make music, I suspect some will complain that this is a further (*looks down nose*) degradation of the arts.

My reply would be "So? Before symphonies and big-dollar performing acts and all that, most musicians were disreputable vagabonds, traveling alone or in groups, playing mostly cheap or worn-out instruments, earning a few coins and maybe picking a pocket or two before moving on. Let people have fun."

iPad is where some of the real is. There's real wherever you look. And it is. Is.

synthesis is running out of safe havens. this is one of the few left. the best instruments i've found to date are the ones that were made for ipad one, tho i haven't found the old fab filter one yet, which was originally released on ipad. many of the good ones were no longer available, but the ones that are, they knew what they were doing. i'm enthused. been a long time since that has happened. all my sounds are my own. lets keep it that way.

It’s an incredible scratch pad for composition, and if you get a portable Bluetooth keyboard, it makes it even more so.

For the money you could spend on a single Mac/Windows plugin, you can buy 10 on th iPad, so it’s pretty easy to build up a stock of instruments quickly, particularly if you look for sales (appsliced.co is a good site to find them or set email alerts for when there is a price reduction on something you have your eye on).

How does that work? Is that an apple thing? I have an ipad but never tried recording stuff into my windows environment. Figured I'd have to get a mini jack to split quarter inch adapter.

It doesn't need safe havens. Just because someone else is making music you or I might consider awful, that doesn't make the platform they use any less valid or useful.

As the great physicist Richard Feynmann said (and titled one of his books), "What Do You Care What Other People Think?"

Do your thing, don't fret and fuss over somebody else doing their thing, and everybody wins. Or fret and fuss and you lose. Which option seems better? To me, letting someone else's actions control your attitude seems like a losing proposition from the word go.

the problem is everyone has been given a voice, including people who don't know what they are talking about.

back on topic, i even started to like 44.1, i've had to down grade everything from 48 and i'm ok with it. back in ipad one days (2003 ish?) i made an entire album with it while on trains and plains and nobody could tell me what i was using. i had a voice. 17 years later i still have a voice. with the same apps.

look meffy, you and i can't trust what anyone says on social anymore, including this site or me. there was a time when we could, but all i or you can do now is report our experience. someone is going to have an agenda after you hit send. trust your sense of right and wrong. that's the most important thing. i'm just telling you my experience. i haven't had a personal relationship with synthesis like this in a while.

Don't get me wrong, I'm pleased that you're having a ball with iPad music. I've been having fun too, though my own device lacks enough storage to install much software. I've got Presonus Notion, which is great for someone like me who learned to compose using traditional music notation. Really great to have access to a powerful program like that on the road.

I'm just saying nobody should feel uncomfortable because someone else is using the same medium, device, or whatever, and making possibly inferior work.

Make good stuff, and pay no attention to those whose products you don't like. Don't let someone else box you in. Feel good about what YOU can do. That's all.

P.S.: Most people who write or produce good music started out not nearly as good. Gotta start somewhere. Let them get better while you do your thing. Having a voice is GOOD, not bad.

Yes, it’s easy to hook up an iPad to a Mac. Mostly because Macs have built in virtual MIDI ports and can route audio much easier than Windows.

You can definitely use the audio out on an iPad to pipe audio into Windows though.

yeah, well, the problem is the folks who get cred and get paid are the problem. they are just viewed as better because they can gather a bigger crowd. nobody is listening anymore and nobody cares, because they can't trust what they are hearing. they are on too many drugs to do anything else. the whole system is wrapped around kids being too high to tell the difference.

what's crazy is we used be able to tell the difference because we were high. it's a WHOLE DIFFERENT EXPERIENCE. i keep saying it, but it's a different animal we are dealing with. they think differently. they are more attracted to others then then themselves. cred is money.

i still want the personal experience. that's why i have troubles relating and fitting in.

@ forgotten. would be interested in learning more about piping an ipad into windows. this is why i keep stopping by, you guys have more tech experience in many cases. how do i go about this? special scripts?
