For connecting an iPad to Windows I think Echoes is probably right — the audio cable with adapters will have to do. No syncing or anything cool like that.

I'd be glad to learn of a better way to do it if that's possible.

Works pretty well for me. The add-on instruments take up a chunk of storage, though, and if I recall right they cost more than the program itself. I remember playing one of the demo songs and being surprised — it didn't sound cheap or fake, but quite natural.

Be sure to check the reviews though, both positive and negative. I've not used it for a year or more so I'm going by memory.

[edit] It appears it's not a Presonus product, though the PC and Mac versions are sold by Presonus on their website.

i bought an ipad 10-1/2 wifi with 128 gigs of storage plus factory ios for less than 400$. it works great.the storage is def better then going for the latest processor (which surprised me). the A10 is still equivalent to a 2.7 intel processor. it handles ios fine. rn i'm absolutely a huge fan of beep street, not many presets but you don't need them.

Not sure I’d care for the extra instruments as I’d probably only want piano and to be able to export as MIDI.

I think it is developed by another company, but copyright attribution seems to be Presonus. Some kind of agreement to license the name I suppose.

Recent reviews are somewhat negative, but mostly due to dissatisfaction with recent updates. I might check it out, especially as the company acknowledges there are bugs and is committing to fix them.

because you've been nice i'll tell you a secret weapon, and it's not complicated. Nlog pro sounds balls out hot dog. it's got that gritty natural to it that you seek. the guy later went on to make WAVE for waldorf. recommended.

edit: NAVE for waldorf. spell checker just hated on me.

There are a lot of really good synth apps for the iPad, and plenty of hidden gems.

as an alternative perspective,

Ive been hearing "its the future" for 10 years now. iOS is not new, nor the future, its a side show at best.

The allure is the price, but that in itself is a conundrum, raise the prices and it stops being so attractive. But I must say, its been a big reason for the drop off of Virtual instrument prices. Why pay $130 for something you can buy for $13? The answer is telling.

I do like ipads but not the culture.

what kills me is they have some really nice moog synths for the ipad made by moog inc and they don't have those synths for the desktops? strange... but there is something to say for having a 'closed' OS to build for... you don't have to make things work on everything under the sun. lol and you guys are right there are some REALLY fine hidden gems from indie developers on the system.

funny i never cared for apple and their overpriced product (paying for the icon) but i got an ipod touch ages ago just for listening to music and had a hoot with it and the synths. i bought the old ipad air they discontinued for cheap because my old ipod touch was no longer supported and i wanted to keep my music apps going. and now since THAT ipad stopped on ios12 and never had access to external storage i broke down and finally bought the new 10.5 ipad air recently (only 64gb i think but that is plenty for my synths and music apps) and am MORE than happy with using my ipad as an external hardware synth lol i use windows but have always just fed my desk interface with a cable from my headphone out jack. even though it may add a little distortion that way it really doesn't matter much with a synth... it gets hidden easily in the saws lol would really like to have a lightening cable audio out or a way of directly using the ipad via usb... but it is what it is cheers

p.s. i will make a list of some of the synths i like and post when i get the chance

@forgotten: volt... nice. The great thing about iOS is you still have personality and control over what you do. It hasn’t been done for you. That was the whole point of the post.

as far as the laptop is better thing... I have a master keyboard in one usb, and the iPad in the other, what’s the difference?

@madog, there was an ad converter used in those early units that I hated because I was a vinyl man, but now it’s considered one of the better ad chips ever made.
