Meffy wrote: Wed Mar 11, 2020 1:49 am For connecting an iPad to Windows I think Echoes is probably right — the audio cable with adapters will have to do. No syncing or anything cool like that.

I'd be glad to learn of a better way to do it if that's possible.
Would Abletons Link work for syncing?
https://www.ableton.com/en/link/

Maybe, that’s a new thing, and I don’t use ableton anymore, so I don’t know. but that might be what it’s for.

Link will keep devices in sync, but it won’t help with MIDI or audio routing.

hey guys, i was up early thinking about the issue of porting the ipad into pc daw and remembered that i bought studiomux years ago when it was first released. i went and looked and yep... still there in purchases. if you own audiobus and studiomux together you should be able to port to pc daw over usb. i'm going to play around with it today.

on a side note, when did we get a like button? that's new.

How has everyone else fared with their old 32 bit apps? I did pretty well out of it myself. Beatsurfing was the only unreplaceable casualty for me (morphing from an ultra-powerful 'build your own MIDI controller' app into the frankly useless 'interactive music player' Playground.)

I feel like the inevitable switch happened at just the right time for musicians. Most of the 32-bit big guns seemed to offer an upgraded 64-bit version, while most new instruments are sensibly priced as a one-off purchase rather than as an ongoing 'service'. Poor iPad gamers were screwed because all their pay-once 'complete' games from the 32-bit days were retooled into free-to-play microtransaction fests in the 64-bit era. I guess it's where the money is...

Absolutely love my iPad either way. Not so much for the synths as for the MIDI/OSC controller side of things. TC-11 gets a lot of use on the synth side though, despite the MIDI/OSC only variant TC-Data being more versatile. I do miss Beatsurfing mind...

@cron, about a third of the apps i bought for the original ipad are still available in purchases, but they are greyed out and not available for download with a prompt saying "this developer needs to update this app to work with the newest ios." disappointed to say the least because a couple will probably never get back like yonacs drum machine. yonac is kind of getting on my bad side because not only is he not supporting his older apps, but his newer apps are in app pay to play. i want my yonac drum machine back.

Dunno about synth apps, but... I bought one of those fancy controller editors once for Andoird (don't remember the name now). I really dislike that kind of operation. It isn't haptic, it's too small, and, setting up your own controller seemed more of a pain to me.

A 24" display is already small for handling virtual instruments and a DAW for me. And, my 4 physical core 4 virtual cores CPU is already on the limit for nowadays VSTi's, if they're a bit heavier. Nah, iPad, and, in general, tablet PC's are not for me in terms of making music.

EDIT!

all you need is studiomux. it streams it right to your pc daw!

not good y'all.... i got a new kind of GAS.

I love iPad apps, especially Samplr, but there are really too many to count. However, the real is also with Bitwig.
