GarageBand is pretty good for a mobile app (although it has limitations). For Mac owners it’s good because you can save your iPad projects to iCloud then import them into Logic.

ipads can be dangerous and should be treated accordingly.
imagine, you are late for work, you throw your jacket an ipad on to the parcel shelf of your car, proceed to drive to work.
a cute little kitten runs in to the street, you slam on, that ipad flys forward, skimming the air like an expensive square frisbee...
takes your head clean off!

be aware, take care.

That’s some really useful advice - next time I’m late for work I’ll just run the kitten over.

Thanks! :tu:

I like AUM and a variety of sequencers.

You can even use a MIDI only DAW like Xequence to control everything in AUM. Although you’re using 2 apps, it actually keeps things simple.

Cubasis is probably the best, but it’s expensive and the built-in instruments are terrible - you end up spending a fortune if you get all the IAPs. Also they have no upgrade option, so you end up buying it outright again each time they release a new version.

if you don't have need for in daw instruments (i don't), i still ride multitrackdaw.

also n-track makes a good daw.

if you do need in daw instruments i think most people prefer nanostudio.

...and wasn't there something called "aurora" or something? i forget what the name was, have to look it up.

Post

Auria Pro i think you mean... it is more a full DAW experience than Cubasis but it was a bit demanding on my old ipad. i need to check it out on this newer unit. it was the first to have Fabfilter plugs as IAP before Fabfilter made their suite of AUv3 plugs

Some iPad apps are indeed amazing and even better than everything i could get on a desktop. For me it also might be the future and i could imagine to ditch my macbook in 1-2 years if that goes on.
If Logic Pro X comes one day to iPads, then something like 2CAudio Precedence and Breeze 2 (which i won´t miss ever now) i would switch already. For the rest i miss i just sample some of my libraries to use within iOS apps. Some FX are missing maybe but they will come. Maybe even my favorite synth P900 will be maybe on iOS in a not so far future. So i ask me why should i pay 10 times more, for sometimes even less.
Everything else mainly is there and often for 1/10 of the price.
Midi tools are already mostly better and more usable on iOS as on desktop.
Now that things like StaffPad and SWAM engines also coming to iOS it is another nail in the coffin for my future mac.
Then things like the coming Drambo from Beepstreet will replace Reaktor (you could compare it with kind of Reaktor blocks maybe but with better workflow and more interesting features for me) for me since i just hate using it. A lot things in desktop/laptop feels like dinosaurs and they will die.
Maybe a reason so many developers also make iOS ports or even iOS exclusive stuff.
Also no piracy there.
It might be indeed the future, especially for the younger generation.
There are some really creative apps which really let you rethink how to interact with audio and it even can replace my Seabaord Rise and any midi controller on top of that.
I´m looking forward to the next iPad generation which also might be more powerful as my current macbook pro.
For a year maybe i thought different but i started with iOS actually years ago, made even whole albums on just my iPhone, migrated to mac but now i get tired and could imagine to go back full iOS. NanoStudio 2 is a favorite here as iOS DAW, still lacking audio tracks but when it comes it might even replace Logic for me.

There are some iPad apps that have no equal in desktop land. For me, the best looping software (I use Group the Loop for the feature of different song sections, most ppl love Loopy HD), the best apps for sounding like a live, improvising drummer (Lumbeat apps - soft drummer, jazz drummer, funk, reggae, several different but similar apps for different styles). This is mainly for playing live, solo, as a guitarist. Plus the amp sims of course.

It's quite different world to get your head around. The audiobus forum is the place to find answers and research stuff (forum.audiobus.us They made the first app that connects other apps, but their forum now covers the whole scene, including competitors products)

My mind was opened to the possibilities when I saw what this guy could do live on an ipad

Whoa, whoa, stop this thread. I don’t need to hear that. I already own all of beepstreet.

@goldenanalog

i have owned a lot of yonac gear, and have magellan and several others on my iphone to putz around on, but i'm a little upset i purchased his drum machine many years ago and he never kept up with it. also, doesn't version 2 have in app purchases? i'm not playing around with that. animoog got deleted when i saw they went that way .
