HI

I just found it amusing when I came accross the advert, I have in my loft (no doubt like many others here) several thousand pounds worth of software - mainly Amiga and older PC stuff, I also paid £150 for MusicX - like 15 years ago; I was lucky on that one, I think I sold it for £50.

I will have my guitar in 15 years time - I imagine?

It's Sunday night, I am taking a break from learning SXV3 - it pleasured me (!) to have a minor distraction .......... for a while.

I have spent thousands on software and Daw's in just the last couple of years, what that tells me is that the longevity of application programs/hardware is becoming increasingly shorterned - I think over the next couple of years we had better hope that the current crop of applications are updated, because in 5 years time nothing around today (software wise) is likely to run on the 64/128 bit systems that Microsoft and Apple will continue to develop - not because 'WE' need them but rather - materialistic society depends on the self perpetuation of everything in it's wake, to continue it's ever decreasing onslaught to oblivion.

There you go, it started as a laugh but turned serious  !

PS I don't consider this a moan (!) .. it's life - at the moment.

Rebirth and Reality are already worthless and I bought it what, maybe 5 years ago?

daHornet has no dollar value and I bought it a year ago.

RM IV has now been wipped from my system and I just bought the upgrade 2 weeks ago.

Software does not last as long as it used to.

HI

Your lucky - I bought Hornet AND the Prosound pre-sets!

Bloody hell - RM4 already taking the long walk in the darklands, I love the thing, you obviously don't!

If you keep it upgraded to the latest version provided the film is still going you'll prob get 50% of the original value. If it's not updated after a couple of versions changes it will be worth virtually nothing - but what is important is how much it's worth to the person using it

I'm one of the customers that is missing a .dll file that should have been included in the install and that makes me a bit pissed with RM IV. Even more so since the developers knew about this problem and never fixed the install file. I wasted two eveningn trying to figure out the problem before finding an old thread on the forum from others with the problem. :bang:

If I bought a keyboard and it was missing the power cable, I cannot imagine the manufacturer saying "We thought everyone would already have a power cable. Plus, it makes shipping lighter." :smack:

HI

It surprises me that some developers struggle to use an appropriate installer with which to deliver their goods to the consumer - I agree with your analogy - it could have been worse though; I demoed the Spin audio range which (except M2) had a problem - on un-installing, it wiped every DLL file in the vst folder - I think they may have solved the problem now :x .

I couldn't even demo VAZ as it had an installer that disliked a particular ver of windows (now cured), the list goes on - you wouldn't expect it to be a problem to use a tried and tested install programme - there are dozens of them around.

Go back to RM4 though - it is worth it.

I am hoping that I'll be able to spare the cash to buy Rebirth in the next 3 or 4 months, this must sound bizarre to anyone who has owned it for 3 or 4 years and doesn't use it anymore? .
But I will really get some use out of it , epecially with the mods and stuff .
So there you go , I'd say that in fifteen years time we will be going to Win 98 parties where people will have
P2 700 in mint condition playing Warcraft or Quake Arena saying how wonderfully kitch it all is , hell I was at a C64 Atari party just recently and after seeing them properly up and running(for me the first time) I was so impressed I wanted one ... or the other,
So give me your copy of rebirth I'll give it a nice home and you can write ocasionally to see how it's doing and so forth . :)
Ps: that thing you said about the developers is
really not good , I'm still waitng on a sign from sonikreality about a fix for the synth one I forked out for in the recent group buy , It crashes when you use certain presets and of course they are the presets I keep going back to because they are the ones I want to use ! :(

I imagine that certain softsynths will still be used for nostaligic reasons possibly. Perhaps they'll sound grainy like 8bit does now. Or perhaps we'll have emulations of the original classics. I can imagine software becoming easier to use and the interface becoming more intuitive. We may end up laughing at all the button pressing and mouse clicking that we do now. But there will still be room for musicians (technicians?) who want to create sounds from scratch. Like there aren't enough presets in the world already...oh well, each to their own.

I'm a Microsoft-employee... so of course my view is biased... but comments like this are getting very tired.

A) Who's the 4t Reich?
The current office holders...I wasn't bashing MS exactly...this was really more of an election time kind of comment for people who wear tinfoil hats...but you've got to admit the Fritz chip and "trusted computing" does get rather 1984...

Is there an upgrade path for current Z3ta+ owners?

Will there be a group buy announcement?

My software has helped me to save huge amounts of money, especially friday and saturday nights.
Maybe I wouldnt be as healthy as I am now if I didnt buy them. 8)

in 15 years, my current softwares will still do what they do now. i just hope they'll be updated when new OS will take over the market.

what makes me anxious is the softwares that have challenge / response schemes as anti-copy system. if the company ceases to exist for whatever reason, i won't be able to install these softwares on the next DAW.
