Hi,

I am interested in people's opinions on preset naming. Do you think having each preset named uniquely instead of something along the lines of Bass 01, Bass 02, etc is important?

If you do, what does uniquely naming a preset give to the end user?
Should those names try and convey the essence of the preset i.e. don't give a dark sounding pad a name such as 'Fluffy Clouds'.

Is it important for synths that don't have favouriting functionality?

I will be intrigued to hear your views. Even if it is just 'who cares'!! :tu:

EDIT: I ask this as I am creating a preset expansion pack and I am not the best at naming presets. I tend to just a random word generator.

Cheers

It refuses description, allowing only the vague approach of adjectives: dark, light, raw, angelic. Who or what is making these noises? Where are they coming from and what do they point to? What kind of entity can leave such a troubling sonic remnant?

That's another consideration I hadn't thought about - putting the creator's name in the preset somehow. I haven't done that with the presets I am creating in Serum, but Serum has a space for each preset in the UI, for the creator's name.

Also VSTs that allow for a folder system help with naming i.e. a Bass folder, Pad folder. Folders, however, could be annoying to some people - giving an extra layer to navigate through. I think that if the expansion pack has a lot of presets included then folders can help breakdown a massive list, maybe making it easier to navigate.

I think your naming system seems more descriptive than say NR.BS.RandomName.03 as it tells the end user exactly what you have attempted to create...a deep sub preset. However, having a lot of presets on one screen with NR.BS.DeepSub.01, NR.BS.DeepSub.02, NR.BS.DeepSub.03 - could be a little 'busy' to look at.

Haha, I am going to get you to name all my presets in the future...or at least I am going to use those - bohemian tears is quality!
